1   Patrick O'Mar was born in 1831 in Miramichi, Canada, and died 8 MAY 1875, Oak Hill, NB. On 26 JUN 1854 in Calais ME, he, then of Robbinston, ME, and Ellen F Wilson, then of Calais ME, published their intentions to marry and were married in Calais, ME, sometime between APR 1854 and APR 1855. By September 1854, they were living in Oak Hill, Charlotte County, NB, CAN. Ellen F. Wilson was born 28 NOV 1834, in New Brunswick, CAN, perhaps the daughter of John Wilson (b. abt 1805, US) and Abigail ____ (b. abt 1798, US), she died 25 MAR 1905, Oak Hill, NB. She is listed in the Oak Hill School Register for 1844 as Ellen Wilson, age 10. In 1871, Listed in McAlpine’s Directory as living in Oak Hill. According to Geraldine Omar Alexander, Patrick’s great grand daughter, " he [Patrick] was hauling logs with bobsleds and team of horses on the river. Broke through the ice, lost his life and horses drowned also. They called it the Basswood Section, which I assume is now Basswood Ridge. And I would guess it would be the St. Croix River. He would have been 44 years old." In 1901, Ellen is living with son Emerson, in St James Parish, NB. Patrick is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, NB. They had eleven children (all born at Oak Hill):

2   John Wilson Omar, b. 7 SEP 1854, Oak Hill, NB, d. 26 NOV 1922, Northfield, VT, His first child was born to either Abigail Phillina Powers Loring, widow of Peter Loring (born about 1828, Nova Scotia, CAN), or Abigail and Peter’s daughter, Abigail Philena Loring (born 20 SEP 1853, Topsfield, ME). The 1880 Census lists the widow Abigail as Melvin’s mother, but I have also seen the daughter Abigail listed in various family charts as his mother also. Children:

    John W Omar married, 1st, 22 JUL 1877, Topsfield, ME, Harriett (Hattie) Johnson White, daughter of George Stillman Smith White ( b. 23 JAN 1853, Washington County, ME; m. 18 OCT 1845, d, 18 OCT 1855, Washington County, ME) and Mary Ellen Howe (b. 3 OCT 1828, Waldo County, ME). Harriet was born 26 APR 1861, Talmadge Twp, ME, and died 12 APR 1892, Topsfield, ME. In 1880, they are living in Topsfield, ME, as a farmer and wife with no children in the household. Alfred S Omar, in that same census, is listed as living with and a child of Abigail Loring, but the town records list him as a child of Hattie J (White) Omar. In the APR, 1887 term of the Washington County Superior Court, Hattie sues John for divorce on grounds of cruel and abusive treatment, and divorce is granted, NOV 1887.Children:

    John W Omar married, 2nd, 22 NOV 1887, Boston, MA, Cora Leland Brigham, daughter of Charles L. Brigham (b. 1841, Bridgeton, ME, m. 4 JAN 1863, Amherst, ME, d. 11 OCT 1890, Newport, CA) and Amanda Bradby Goodwin (b. 14 MAR 1844, Aurora, ME, d. 12 FEB 1929, Athol, MA). Cora was born 22 NOV 1864, Amherst, ME, and died 30 JUL 1944, Concord, MA. In his later years, John lived in Vermont where he ran an apple orchard with his son-in-law, Frank Page. His grandchildren remember him bringing spruce gum when he’d come to visit. In the 1910 Census and in the 1916 City Directory, he is living alone as a carpenter, at 252 Walnut St., Revere, MA. In 1920 Census, Cora is a lodger in Boston, MA. In 1930 Census, Cora is living alone in Springfield, MA. Both John and Cora are buried at Glenwood Cemetery, Everett, MA. Children:

In 1920 Census, they were living in Lynn, MA, with children, Doris, Gladys, Kenneth, and Hilda. In failing health the last two years of her life, Janet was seriously ill for only one week before her death. Janet was buried 9 MAY 1955, Oak Hill Cemetery, NB. Children:

Clara was born 17 JUN 1877, Oak Hill, NB, died 3 JUN 1958, Lower Little Ridge,NB In 1905, they were residents of Danforth, ME, where Howard was a laborer. He was a member of the Orange Lodge. In 1949, living at Little Ridge, NB. In 1953, when the Friendship Club was organized Florence became one of its members and took keen interest in its welfare. She and Howard were staunch adherents of the United Church and were interested in all community affairs. In 1957, at the time of his death, Howard, 86, was the oldest resident of Little Ridge, NB. In MAR 1958, Florence sustained a fall in her home which resulted in a broken hip and she was confined to Charlotte County Hospital for a period of three months. She was then removed to her home and care for by her daughter, Mrs. John McLeod. Her health gradually failed .At her death, Florence, 82, was the oldest resident of Little Ridge, NB. Howard and Florence are buried in St Stephen, NB. Children

In 1910 Census, they were living in Eastport, ME, where he was a machinist at a machine shop. On his WWI Draft Registration card, 12 SEP 1918, he is a machinist, lodging at 53 M St, South Boston, MA; he is 5'10', 148 lbs, blue eyed and brown haired. In 1916, Nettie was of Belfast, ME. In 1920 Census, Alfred is a machinist, lodging at Lilla Clark’s, 53 M St, So Boston, MA. Children:

Zaidee was born 3 MAY 1883, Calais, ME. In 1909, they were living at 143 St John St., Portland, ME, in 1910, had moved to 22 Forest Ave., Portland. On his WWI Draft Registration card, 12 SEP 1918, Henry is of medium height and build with blue eyes and light hair; he and Zaidee live at 44 Gilman St. in Portland, ME. In 1920 Census, they are living on Wilson St, Thornton Heights, So Portland, ME. Henry worked for Maine Central Railroad, first as a fireman and then as an engineer. Children:

Frank was the son of William Albert Page (b. 25 MAR 1854, Putney, VT, d. 3 AUG 1933, Putney, VT, m. 3 MAY 1888, Putney, VT) and Nellie Eudora Snow (b. 24 MAR 1863, Putney, VT). In 1920 and 1930 Censuses, living in Springfield, MA. Ethel taught at the American International College, in Springfield, the first woman to teach at the college level in Massachusetts. Children:

13   Tracy Wilson Omar, b. 15 JUN 1891, Wakefield, MA, d. 19 JAN 1947, Boston, MA, m. 21 SEP 1910, Charlestown, MA, Helena Mitchell married Helena Mitchell, daughter of Richard Mitchell ( b. Ireland, d. PEI, CAN ) and Annie Connell ( b. about 1861, Charlottetown, PEI, CAN, d. 10 DEC 1920, Boston, MA), born 7 JAN 1888, Charlottetown, PEI, d. 6 NOV 1956, Boston, MA. Tracy Omar left school very young with his parents’ permission and worked as a pin setter in a bowling alley. After he married he went back to school nights and became a CPA and also got his law degree. He insisted all his children go to college and get a degree in business. His children remember him as a serious thinker and avid chess player. Children (all born at St Margaret Hospital, Dorchester, MA):

28   Hazel Velma Omar, b. 4 AUG 1900, Oak Hill, NB, d. 15 NOV 1982, St Andrews, NB, m. 22 FEB 1922, St Stephen, NB, Jared Alvin Baxter, son of Robert Bruce Baxter (b. 1874, d. 1954, m. 28 FEB 1893) and Lela Burgess (b. 12 NOV 1872, NB, d. 12 MAY 1923). Jared was born 1903, Little Ridge, NB, d. 22 NOV 1968, Grand Forks, NB. In 1934, 1958, 1966 and 1982, living at Little Ridge, NB. Jared attended the Jehovah Witnesses. He was a farmer and woodsman. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of St Croix Branch No.9, Royal Canadian Legion. On 22 NOV 1968, Jared was killed in an industrial accident while working with the Gumite Construction Company at Grand Falls, at about 10:45 AM, when he slipped and fell from a walk, on to the rocks about 16 feet below, striking his head and shoulders. He had been engaged in carpenter work along with some other men for the past four months repairing the inside structure of the dam and was to have been laid off at the end of the day as the repair work was just about completed. He was rushed by ambulance to the Charlotte County hospital but passed away at 3:45 PM the same day. Hazel died at the home of her sister, Lois Omar Townsend, where she lived the last three months of her life after being released from the Charlotte County Hospital. She lived most of her life at Little Ridge, NB. Hazel was buried 17 NOV 1982, and Jared was buried 25 NOV 1968, both at St Stephen, NB. Children:

29   Walter Alvin Omar, b. 18 MAR 1903, d. 2 JUL 1949, St Stephen, NB, m. 24 DEC 1927, St Stephen, NB, Helena Marie Libby. In 1934, living at Brockway, NB. For the three years prior to JUL 1949, Walter was employed by the Eastern Pulpwood Company in Calais, ME. In JUL 1949, during the St Croix Valley International Jubilee, Walter, 46, of Basswood Ridge, NB, drowned in the St Croix River Saturday afternoon after a boat in which he and three companions were sailing overturned. The three who escaped were Thomas Gomez of Calais, William McVail of Calais, and an unidentified man from P.E.I. The accident occurred just below the International Bridge close to the American shore about 5:00 PM. Firemen from both St Stephen and Calais answered the alarm and dragging operations under the direction of Fire Chief Harry Tracy of Calais, were started immediately. About an hour afte the mishap a boat manned by Norman Hill of Calais, Walter Bateman, St Stephen, and Thomas Gomez, Calais, found the body in the approximate spot where it went down. It was identified by Howard Omar, father of the drowned man. At the time of his death Walter and Helena lived on the Bay Road, Basswood Ridge, NB. Walter was buried 5 JUL 1949, St Stephen Rural Cemetery, NB. Children:

William was born 2 AUG 1881, Brockway, NB, d. 26 OCT 1965, at the Oak Haven rest home, Milltown, NB. Ella and William lived in Brockway until 1935, when they moved to Moores Mills. They moved to lower Little Ridge, NB, in 1955. After William's death, Ella went to live in Calais, ME. They were members of the United Church of Canada. William was buried 28 OCT 1965. According to Carol-Ann Nicholson's article in the Courier, " He makes your toes tap, your fingers drum, your heart pump, and your lips laugh. He's magic. `I could sit here and listen to you all day,' I said during the interview after he played The Saphro Reel. `And I'll be waiting for you to move in on Sunday afternoon, dear,' he responded with a wicked grin before his fiddle bow picked up River John Sunset Waltz. On Sat., June 15, Alfred Omar took Third place at the Old Time Fiddling Contest at Sackville. He was also awarded a trophy for the oldest fiddler at the contest. Alfred died following a motor vehicle accident at Little Ridge late Sunday afternoon. He was 85. The St Stephen RCMP said the accident took place on Highway 725 at 3:50 PM Sunday. O'mar was driving an all terrain vehicle. The other vehicle involved was a car. O'mar died at the St John Regional Hospital of injuries sustained in the accident. Alfred was buried 30 JUN 2000; Gertrude was buried 20 FEB 1987, both at Milltown Catholic Cemetery, NB. Children:
