(Body of text)The Honorable Gabriel Ludlow Esquire, Presiding over His Majesty’s Province of New Brunswick etc, etc, etc.

The memorial of the undersigned, Emigrants from North Britain & others ______________Humbly Sheweth that your memorialists left Britain on the fourth of June last, and after many difficulties and disasters have been shifted from place to place until they arrived ( or part thereof) the tenth instant _ their object was to obtain settlements in the Colonies, and had by the encouragements of the Magistrates of Charlotte to hope, Your Honor would make some allotments of land for our accommodation in this County. We therefore Humbly pray your honor to furnish the necessary orders of Survey for our lands in such places as shall be most contiguous to the Settlements already made, as from the great length of time since our Embarkation our little means of subsistence is almost exhausted.

The most of us are farmers, tho there are some of  (?) as Smiths, Taylors and Shoe makers. All however had the same object in view of obtaining lands and making a compleat? settlement of ourselves___Permit us to solicit your protection and attention and to observe that more of us have families whose future comfort and support greatly depend on our getting immediately on lands of the crown, or some other of which Mr. Pagan & others will more particularly better inform Your Honor._

In the hope we may not prove unuseful we with dutiful respect __ subscribe our names for ourselves and for others who cannot write or are not yet at hand to do it,

(Signature) Neil Morison for himself and those now at St. Stephen(s) being forty three in number, as per list.

*          An abbreviation appears here for the first name which is nearly impossible to decipher; i.e. something like Jno. Based on other data in my possession I know that Robert is the son of John Mathewson (Matheson); the abbreviation is identical in all cases, therefore I have substituted the name John for the abbreviation in each case.

**        A note appears beside the list “ 20 Families mostly large but whose particular numbers (?) (?) cannot at present determine.”

***      Spellings are as they appear on the document McLoed for McLeod, Morison for Morrison, SClair for St. Clair, Sinclair, Mathewson for Matheson, Mc for Mac, M for Mc or Mac, etc
