Ridge. [By: George, Ruby, Marilyn & Charles Smith, 1997, Published by Daniel Smith Farms Ltd., Pomeroy Ridge, NB] In the early 1800s, the first settlers, a Pomeroy family, came to this location and named it Pomeroy Ridge. This book traces those early pioneers and their family histories up to the present day. Each homestead or old cellar is recorded from one end of the community to the other and pictures are included whenever possible. There are articles about the history of the church, school and other organizations. Also featured are essays on the lumbering industry and poems about hunting, the native trees, bark peeling and other tales about growing up on the Ridge. A good book to learn more about an early ancestor who was born and raised on Pomeroy Ridge, St. James Parish, Charlotte County, New Brunswick. |

Ridge & Gleason Road. [By: Gordon & Doris Matheson, 1997, Published by Daniel Smith Farms Ltd., Pomeroy Ridge, NB] Comments about this book, written by John McMorran, former headmaster of Tilton School NH, who retired back to his roots in St.James Parish, Charlotte County NB. "Most of us, traveling country roads, have seen deserted houses, dilapidated barns, or possibly no more than a cellar hole, a lilac bush , or a clump of wild roses, and we have wondered who once lived there and what happened to the people. This book tells of these early settlers - their church, their school, their farms, and their families". At the beginning of the book there is a history of the early Scottish emigrants who settled Scotch Ridge in 1805. We are told about their many travails before they finally found a place to homestead. The reader will enjoy the photos of the old and newer houses and a history of each family accompanies these photos and pictures of many of the residents were made available for the book. An up to date transcription of the cemetery is also included. |
