BOCABEC
Presbyterian Church
1836                1868

Presbyterian worship in Bocabec was begun by early Scots-
Irish settlers as early as 1836. The Rev. John Cassilis,
schoolmaster of St. Andrews, was the first clergyman to serve
the congregation. Rev. William Millen, ordained in this church on
Janury 4, 1846, was the first settled minister in the
congregation. He served the area faithfully and was laid to rest
in this cemetery in 1888. The church was originally joined with
the Waweig-Rollingdam Pastoral Charge, then St. George-
Pennfield and lastly with St. Andrews. In May, 1968 a house
fire was fanned into a forest fire which burned the church
building to the ground. We remember with gratitude the
contributions of the Ulster-Scots to this area and the faithful
ministers and elders who preserved their Kirk in a new land.
