Five Islands Grant to John Curry, 1792
First Posted 30 Sep 2001

Introduction

On June 1, 1792 John Curry was granted five islands in the Passamaquoddy Bay area.(1) Three of them - Hardwood Island, Hog Island, and Long Island - were located off the coast of Bocabec and Digdeguash. The other two were described as "the great Island lying in La tete passage" and "Curry's Island of a triangular form, lying in the Bay of Fundy." Curry had previously been granted a licence to the islands by the government of Nova Scotia. This is discussed in more detail on the Hardwood, Hog, & Long Islands page.
