Sheriff's Sale to John Curry, 1780

    James Boyd had some sort of dispute with John Curry in the late 1770s and ended up having his 1000 acre Bocabec River (Dickawasset) grant sold to John Curry by the Deputy Provost Marshal of Nova Scotia on 17 April 1780; an earlier action on 20 August 1777 was mentioned in the deed. The deed was recorded in Halifax County but the original somehow found its way to the Odell Papers at the New Brunswick Museum. The text below is taken from that original, with the permission of the Museum:
 

    To all to whome [sic] these presents
shall come   Greeting. Know ye. That
whereas John Fenton Esqr. Provost Marshal of
the Province of Nova Scotia by virtue of a Law of
the said Province and for and in consideration of the
Sum of thirty two pounds Currency to satisfy in
part an Execution John Curry against James Boyd
late of Pasmaquaddy [sic] in the County of Sunbury in
the Province of Nova Scotia Esquire, did make over
and sell and by his Deed bearing date the twentieth
day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred & seventy seven a tract of Land situate
lying & being at the mouth of the Westermost of
the three Rivers in the Grand Bay of Pasmaquaddy
called Dickawasset River & to measure westerly thirty
chains on the Shore of the Bay, thence to run north
one hundred & seventy Chains, thence East sixty Chains,
thence south one hundred & sixty Chains more or less till
it meets the said Bay, thence westerly the several
courses of the Bay to the mouth of the said River first
mentioned; containing in the whole by estimation one
thousand Acres more or less; _ the same being duely [sic]
appraised and the Deed given subject to the Equity
of Redemption as by Law directed. Now know ye
That I William Shaw Esquire Deputy Provost Marshal
for the Province of Nova Scotia at the request of John
Curry the plaintiff in the aforesaid Cause (the Defendent [sic]
James Boyd not having redeemed the aforesaid Tract [of]
Land nor any one for him within the time limited [by]
Law nor at any time since,) have caused the premises
aforesaid to be advertised and have at public Auction
and to the highest bidder being John Curry aforesaid
sold the before mentioned Tract of Land for and in consid-
eration of the sum of thirty two pounds Currency to
me in hand well & truely [sic] paid the receipt of which
I do hereby acknowledge. To have & to hold the
before mentioned tract of Land situate lying & being
at the mouth of the westermost of the three Rivers
in the Grand Bay of Pasmaquaddy called Dickawasset
River & to measure westerly thirty Chains on the [shore]
of the Bay, thence to run north one hundred & seventy
Chains, thence East Sixty Chains, thence South one
hundred & sixty Chains more or less till it meets
the said Bay, thence westerly the several courses of the Bay
to the mouth of the said River first mentioned, containing
in the whole by estimation one thousand Acres more or less
with all the Improvements privileges profits, Comm[?]
and Appurtenances on the said Lands being or any-
ways belonging or appurtaining unto him the said
John Curry his Heirs & Assigns for ever _ In Witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my
seal this Seventeenth day of April in the year of
our Lord one thousand seven hundred & Eighty & in the
twentieth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord King
George the third
