Highway 1 is the main east-west route through southern New Brunswick. It enters Saint Patrick Parish at Bethel, crosses the Digdeguash River and then follows the Bocabec River valley on its way to St. Stephen.

Highway 127 beings at Highway 1 just west of the Digdeguash River bridge. It crosses the Bocabec River and passes through the populated areas of Bocabec and Bocabec Cove on its way to Chamcook and St. Andrews.

The portion of Highway 1 west of the Highway 127 turnoff was built relatively recently (probably the late 1960's). Prior to that, what is now Highway 127 was part of Highway 1.
