1820
Census of Shediac area
(from
microfilm F859, PANB)
(Thanks
are expressed to Shirley Coneen Olfert who pointed out that there
seemed to be a discrepancy with the data on this census and the
year to which it was attributed. This census was also transcribed
and printed in Generations, vol. 5, Aug 1980, and attributed to
1803 as well. However, Ms. Olfert pointed out that Richard Hodgson
married only in 1807, and didn't emigrate to Shediac until 1819.
In checking further, I compared the Melanson families below with
Stephen A. White's "La Genealogie des Trente-Sept Familles
Hotesses des Retrouvailles", in "La Societe Historique
Acadianne", vol. 25 no. 2-3. From the number of children in
each family, it is clear that this census is from 1820, not from
1803. My apologies for any confusion over this issue).
