The Chapter was organized on February 1, 1996 at the Reese Insurance Agency, Main Street in Hendersonville. Since that time the Chapter has contributed to all State and National Projects required for Achievement Awards. The Chapter has had State Chairman, won State awards, as well as placing sixth in the Nation in its first year! The Chapter won the use of the State Constitution Week Silver Punch Bowl twice in a row. It was used at special meetings, and even went to the Centennial Celebration at the Charlotte's Chapter celebration! Chairman have awarded Media Awards to the director at the Flat Rock Playhouse, Bill Prim at WHKP Radio, and who worked with Public radio and television as well as movies. Our 1997- 1999 Conservation Chairman awarded the National award to a community volunteer who has helped spearhead an EPA Superfund Cleanup, the creation of a community park, as well as many other projects. Each year the Chapter has had a proclomation signed by the Mayor of Flat Rock for Constitution Week. Also members contacted churches in their community and asked the churches to ring the bells at the minute the constitution was signed. The 1996 - 1997 Chairman created a bulletin board contest in the area high schools. A plaque is inscribed each year with the winners name. A framed print purchased from DAR headquarters is presented to the classroom for use for the year. Judging the contest has inspired many members at the youths interpretations of our countries most precious document. Members have attended Memorial Day Wreath Layings and Veterans Day celebrations. The Labor Day Apple Festival parade has seen our members proudly display our patriotism including our then 89 year old member who is a descendant of Abraham Kuykendall himself!

What do you do at THOSE meetings? Well, at the Abraham Kuykendall chapter meetings we follow the DAR Ritual.

Ritual? That means we stand and pledge our nations flag, sing the Star Spangled Banner, recite the American's Creed, listen to the National Defense message, hear a Constitution sidelight, hear flag facts and the reading of the minutes of the last meeting!

So what do you talk about? We are not all genealogists. We are all not historians. We have many topics, we try to stay focused on Education, History and Patriotism. We have had an American Indian professor, someone from the landfill, someone from the Recreation department, information on the DAR buildings in Washington, a wonderful lady brought old weaving tools, a presentation on Valley Forge, and many other topics. Members are asked to submit program ideas for consideration to the Program Committee!
