Welcome One and All
We are John McGowan and Kay Lynn Sheppard, the new co-hosts of the Beaufort Co., NCGenWeb pages, which we were asked to create and maintain about a year ago. We are also co-hosts of the Hyde Co., NCGenWeb pages, which we created and have maintained since it's beginning more than ten years ago. This past February, we were asked to co-host the Pamlico Co., NCGenWeb pages. If you ever visited the previous Beaufort and Pamlico web sites, you will undoubtedly be aware of why these changes were necessary. If you have ever visited the Hyde Co., NCGenWeb pages, then you are familiar with how we do things. We will attempt to bring the same quality to the Beaufort Co., NCGenWeb pages and the Pamlico Co., NCGenWeb pages. The emphasis will be on research and assistance to researchers. Since as many of my ancestors are from Beaufort as from Hyde, I am familiar with many Beaufort County families. I have been doing Beaufort County research for many years and I am a member of the Beaufort County Genealogical Society. We will create a totally new the Beaufort Co., NCGenWeb site from the bottom up and will appreciate any and all assistance you can offer.
If you have roots in Beaufort County or the surrounding area, please send me your Queries and Surnames. Please insert the words "Query" or "Surname" on the subject line. I will enter your information manually. If you wish to post a document to the site, by all means, please do contact us. If you have any obituaries, especially older ones, please send them to Kay Lynn.

As many of you are aware, John McGowan and Kay Lynn Sheppard were asked to take over the Beaufort Co., NCGenWeb site in Feb. 2006 and then the Pamlico Co., NCGenWeb in Feb. 2006. For each site it was necesary to start all over and rebuild the sites completely from the bottom up. Unfortunately, the previously host also controlled the mailing lists and we were not allowed to use them to communicate with fellow researchers. Finally, Rootsweb granted us space for two New lists which are * free and open to everyone * who is interested in the genealogy and the history of our area. They are the BEAUFORT-NC-GENWEB Mailing List and the PAMLICO-NC- GENWEB Mailing List. These Lists have been created to aid in your research. And we will use them share our research and to keep everyone up to date on the contents of the Beaufort Co., NCGenWeb Pages and the Pamlico Co., NCGenWeb Pages. To Subscribe, please see Beaufort & Pamlico NCGenWeb Mailing List.

USGenWeb - NCGenWeb
In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. The NC GenWeb Project is an extension of the KY GenWeb Project.

From How Green Was My Valley by Richard Llewellyn:
"I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me those who are to come, I looked back and saw my father, and his father, and all our fathers, and in front to see my son, and his son, and the sons upon sons beyond.
And their eyes were my eyes.
As I felt, so they had felt and were to feel, as then, so now, as tomorrow and forever. Then I was not afraid, for I was in a long line that had no beginning and no end, and the hand of his father grasped my father's hand, and his hand was in mine, and my unborn son took my right hand, and all, up and down the line that stretched from Time That Was to Time That Is, and Is Not Yet, raised their hands to show the link, and we found that we were one, born of Woman, Son of Man, made in the Image, fashioned in the Womb by the Will of God, the Eternal Father."
