Broad River Genealogical Society, Inc. is a non-profit corporation chartered in October 1980 by the State of NC and is classified as a Tax-Exempt Educational & Scientific Organization within the meaning of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations of funds, books and other property made to the Society are deductible for purposes of Federal Income Tax returns.

It is a member of the Federation of Genealogical Societies, the National Genealogical Society, the North Carolina Genealogical Society and the Cleveland County Arts Council.
Its purposes are to preserve area records, and to disseminate genealogical and historical information through books and a bulletin published quarterly.

The quarterly magazine, "Eswau Huppeday",
which translates as "land between the rivers" and refers to the territory

between the Cherokee & Catawba Indian Nations, contains over

250 pages of historical and genealogical information each year.

Our monthly meetings are open to everyone interested

in local and family history in the surrounding area.  The meetings are held in the Performing Arts Area of the

Neal Senior Center on H.T. Harris Drive, Shelby,

which is just off of Hwy 18 North (Fallston Road) at the intersection at Ross Grove Baptist Church and

Time Warner.   Be sure to park at the back side of the

building and use the entrance in the back near the gazebo.

.MEETINGS .3:00 PM on the second Sunday of each month except November & .December, unless otherwise announced. The April meeting is periodically .replaced by a special seminar & the November and December meetings are .combined into one meeting on the second Sunday of December. The regular .meeting place is the Senior Center, Fallston Road, Shelby, NC . Meetings .are open to anyone with an interest in genealogy or local history.
.PUBLICATIONS .Members receive a copy of Eswau Huppeday, the official publication of the .Broad River Genealogical Society, Inc., each February, May, August and .November. Members are encouraged to submit articles for publication.
.QUERIES FOR .PUBLICATION

.Members may submit unlimited queries each year to be used as space .allows, at the discretion of the publication committee, for publication in the .society bulletin, Eswau Huppeday.Queries may be edited. Non-members .may submit queries at a cost of $2.00 each. This policy is in effect until .further notice.

Our gem of a corresponding secretary can do limited research for you.
Mike Allen is a gifted genealogical detective and can usually dig up a
little information on anyone who was in our area for even a short period of time.
Don't want to make a donation until you hear from Mike?
No problem, make your request as specific as possible, and decide if
you'd like to make a donation when you receive Mike's work.
(Mike doesn't use e-mail, so please use our form.)

As space allows, our editor-in-chief will publish your query. This service is free to our members. For $2.00 per query, non-members can get their brick walls before the full membership, and maybe, just maybe find a piece to the puzzle.
