Mines
The Reed Mine about 12 miles south of Concord;
the ores on the lower hill veins are exceedingly rich; of late no work
has been done on that part of the mine; the upper hill has been very rich in
places, and it is thought the mine would pay
well with proper management ----- depth 100 feet. Owned by Philadelphia
parties.
The Furr Mine adjoining the Reed on the North
side, has been very recently opened, a shaft has been sunk 75 ft.
Owned by Allen Furr, Cabarrus.
The First National Mines, is situated 9 miles
SE from Concord, a 20 stamp mill with the necessary steam power has been
erected during the present year; but little work has been done to test the value
of the mine.
Owned by a NY Company.
The Cabarrus Mine adjoining is on the same ledge; a 16 stamp mill is in process of erection but like the First National, it is entirely undeveloped. Owned by a Washington D C Company.
The Phoenix Mine is situated 7 miles SE from Concord; this property has yielded some 930,000 dollars; it is, beyond doubt, one of the most valuable property's in the state. Owned mostly by R T Brock.
The Excelsior Mine adjoining the Phoenix on the
east, is another valuable property; this property has not been worked
to the same extent as the Phoenix, and therefore has yielded less. Owned
by W P Furmiss, New York.
The Bangle Mine is situated in the North of the
Phoenix, and adjoining; this is a very extensive property, and if properly
opened, would yield 50 ton or ore per day. Owned by R D Cullen, New York.
The Faggart Mine is to the North and adjoining
the Bangle Mine; this property is much smaller, in extent that the before
mentioned, but is a valuable mine. Owned by J T Faggart, Cabarrus County.
The North Barrier Mine is situated to the south of the Phoenix. Two steam engines with a 10 stamp mill are erected on the mine and in operation. the prospects are very flattering. Owned by a Washington D C Company.
The Pioneer Mills Mine is one among the earliest
discovered mines of the State; situated about 12 miles SW from Concord, this
mine has yielded large amounts of gold, and is a valuable property for as well
for copper as gold.
Owned by Aiken & McCullock Albany NY.
