     Anyone publishing a book featuring Cabarrus history or Cabarrus families is invited to send ordering information to the society for inclusion in our journal, newsletter and Website.     Journal back issues are available starting with Fall 1993 at $5.00 each, including shipping and handling. We have sold out of some of the early issues.
 

         Society publications are available for pick up (no mail orders) at New Techgraphics, 1520 Dale Earnhardt Blvd, Kannapolis (704-933-8324).     Cabarrus County Tax Assessment Records 1860 and 1863 Kathryn L. Bridges and Bernard W. Cruse Jr, transcribers.  The 1863 index includes slaves required to be listed by name with real property subject to taxation. They are listed in district numbers 1-12.  This book will prove to be a valuable source of information for students and researchers of African American history or families tracing their genealogy in the county. The index includes the name of persons, number acres, value per acre, total value, age of  slave, value of slave and comments (blacksmith) or (unsound).      Cabarrus County North Carolina Tax Scroll - 1890 Kathryn L. Bridges, Bernard W. Cruse, Jr, and Larry W. Hayer, transcribers and editors.
    Most researchers know that almost all of the 1890 census was destroyed. Of the three surviving North Carolina townships, none are in Cabarrus County. Genealogists use many records to supplement this lost census. For Cabarrus County, the 1890 Tax Scroll is one substitute. Listings for townships one through nine were published in the Cabarrus Genealogy Society journal by Kathryn Bridges over a period of several years. Kathy retired before publishing the last three township lists. Bill Cruse scanned the journal pages and copied the last three lists from microfilm.
