From the book titled "North Carolina Headrights A List of Names, 1663-1744" compiled by Caroline B. Whitley. Page 102.

John Buntin, Alice his wife, Joseph Holbrook, William Peers, Thomas Woodward, these five belong to Buntin, John. Ares, Joseph Simpson, EDWARD STANDING, these three by Mr. Duckenfield Certified 6 March 1693. Registered and warrant given. In another book I find a reference to a John Duckenfield, Gentleman who was probably this Mr. Duckenfield, he received a 250 acres in Chowan Precinct on 6, Aug. 1917. Based on this information leads me to believe that Edward Standin may have been between 20 to 30 years of age and likely born somewhere between 1663 to 1673 & this would be Edward Standin, Sr.

The year was 1721, Edward Standing, Sr had died in 1718.
Edward Standin, Jr died with out a will. This property ended up in the hands of Henderson Standin, who willed the plantation on Chinkapin Ridge to his son Joseph Standin. in 1781. It is good to see that the property kept being handed down from one generation to another.

I have looked at several references to Edward Standin's will date July 9, 1718 and probated January 17, 1721. This reference comes from Abstracts of Wills, 1690-1760. It is listed under Edward Standing, Chowan Precinct names sons William, Samuel, Edward & daughter Sarah and wife Sarah. I had always overlooked his son EDWARD Standin, This Edward Standin, Jr would have been the Edward that married Sarah Luten.

In another reference in the North Carolina Historical Register page 76 Edward Standing, Sr children were named John, Samuel & William and daughter Sarah & wife Sarah. If a person was following just one reference he would never know that Edward, Sr had 4 sons rather than 3. John is not mentioned in one reference and Edward, Jr is not mentioned in the other reference. It takes a lot of research to connect all the pieces.

===============================================

THis William Standin was the son of Edward Standing, Sr.
It seems that all of the Standin family are connect from both Perquimnas & Chowan Counties.

A friend sent me this information about Edward Standing, Sr who was first listed in Albemarle County, It seems that Edward was listed there between 1675 through 1678 which make me think again about how old he was. If he were atleast 20 years of age in 1675 then he would have been born in 1655, but it would be my guess with 200 acres of land he may have been older than 20 . I think it is safe to say that he was born before 1655.

OLD ALBEMARLE CO. NC MISCELLANEOUS RECORDS 1678 to ca 1737 by Weynette Parks Haun

All refs to Standin/Standing. These are tax lists, paid in corn thus the name corn lists. It will tell you only the year they were in Albemarle. Albemarle was the original district from which later both Chowan and Perquimans were formed.

Edw. Standing 200 acres years 1675 through 1678
Ed. Standing quit rents 1695 through 1699
EDW. STANDON 1716 429 acres. Suspect this is another spelling of the same person.

Notes: After reading this will, it does not look like Frances is the mother my John M. Standin and I have more research to do. Henderson Standin family was the only Standin I found listed in the 1800 census in Chowan County, I assume that this Henderson Standin was Jr. the son of Henderson Standin, Sr and Mary Gregory. In 1810 Census Hendeson Standin Jr is no no longer listed but John Standin is listed as head of household. With only one Standin Family listed in Chowan County in those 2 census, I know that I am in the right area with my John M. Standin. I just have not found the right connection as of yet. The actual images are below. Thanks, Michael Scrape
