WILL OF ELIZABETH FOREHAND HOBBS WHITE (abt 1846)
Wife of Silas WhiteI Elizabeth White of the county of Chowan and state of North Carolina being infirm in health but of sound & disposing mind and memory & knowing that it is appointed by an all wise Creator for all once to die do make ordain and publish this to be my last will & testament in manners following-
First~ I give & bequeath to my son Moses White the tract of land allotted to me in the division of land among (can’t read) of my father Moses Hobbs adjoining the lands of Samuel Boyce Noah Hollowell & others (can’t read several words) Chowan County and considering (can’t read) and them greater (can’t read) to him and his heirs forever.
Secondly~ I give & bequeath to my daughter Charity White the feather bed I now have & the red pine chest which she now calls hers to her and her heirs forever.
Thirdly~ I give & bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth White one feather bed & one chest each of the same value of that before bequeathed to my Daughter Charity & I desire if they or either of said articles are not in hand at my Death that they be purchased for her out of the residue of my Estate.
Fourthly~ I give & bequeath all the residue of my property of every kind & description to be equally divided among my five younger children Charity Silas Jacob Elizabeth & Jordan White to them and their heirs forever.
Fifthly~ I nominate & appoint my son Moses White whole & sole executor of this my last will & testament to faithfully execute all of the matters hereinbefore mentioned.

J Cannon State of North Carolina Chowan County Court{ February Term. 1846 The foregoing Last Will & testament of Elizabeth White dec. was exhibited in open court and the execution thereof was proved in Common form by the Oath of Robert T. Paine and James I. Cannon the subscribing witnesses thereto; and at the same time Moses W. White the executor therein mentioned apeared & qualified as such by taking the Oath prescribed by law. Where upon it was ordered that notice issue to the heirs at law of said Elizabeth White dec that the said Will, will be offered for probate at the next term of this Court in Solmen form. Teste, T.T. Wife: Absala RogersonIn the name of God amen I Humphrey Ward of the County of Chowan and State of North Carolina Being weake in body but of sound mind & memory Blessed by god for the same Calling to mind the certainty of Death Do make & ordain this my last will and Testament in manner & form following that is to say-
First, I give & Bequeath unto my Beloved wife Absula Ward Tso horses one bridle & Saddle one Riding Chair & harness three cows & yearlings three Ewes & lambs all my stock of hogs to her and her heirs for Ever – also I leave the rise of my Negroman Robin & Woman Aggy Dick & Julia & her Increase, during her life time or widowhood ___ with one yoake of oxen ___
Item I give & Bequeath unto my son Allen Ward the land and plantation whereon he now lives lying in Gates County containing one hundred & twentyive acres be the same more or less and one hundred & twenty acres of land lying in Chowan County (can’t read) Lewis Ward old plantation one Negro named Andrew with sundry other articles which he has all Ready in possession (Except Sundry notes & papers which he has of mine in his hands) to him and his heirs for Ever _______ Item I give & Bequeath unto my Beloved Daughter Lovey Spivey one Negro boy named Danil with Sundry other articles which she has already in her possession to her & her heirs for Ever _______

Item I give & Bequeath unto my beloved Son Baker Ward the Land & plantation whereon I now live & all the Remainder of my lands which I have not already given away four hundred & fiftysix acres be the Same more or less & one (can’t read) still standing on the land (my will is that my wife should have the use of her to still her own children) also fifty acres of (can’t read) land lying in Perquimans County one negro named Jack one Negro woman named Nancey also one Negro girl named Morina also after the Death of my wife one Negro man named Robin one hourse Bridle & Saddle worth one hundred and fifty dollars one plough & (can’t read) one feather bed & furniture one cow & calf two Ewes & lambs one large Deish one Bason of (can’t read) Six Earthen plates three pewter plates one Iron pot one (can’t read) one chest three chair frames one Sow & pigs one stock of bees one half of the wheats (can’t read). If he should dye without an heir lawfull Begotten or befor he comes to the age of twenty one years my will and Desire is that the above property to Return back to his Brother & Sisters namely AllenWard Lovey Spivey Mary Gregory Deborah Rountree & Christean Ward, to him & his heirs for ever.
Item I give & bequeath unto my Beloved Daughter Christian Ward one Negro girl named Rose & two hundred dollars one feather Bed & furniture one cow & calfe two Ewes & lambs one Stock bees one Iron pot one large pewter Dish one Bason one chest three chair frames Six Earthen plates three pewter plates one Loom one linen wheal one pair curds to her & her heirs for Ever ____
And it is my will & Desire that my wife Absaly Ward shall have the use of all my Son Baker Wards lands until he comes to the age of twenty one years & if they cannog agree then my lands & building to be Equally devided between them during her natural life or widowhood & also with the use of my two youngest childrens Baker & Christian Wars property till they arrive to age or marriage also my will is that Jack, Tom, Hester and Nancey they & their increase be Equallly devided Between my four Daughters Lovey Spivey Mary Gregory Deborah Rountree & Christian Ward after my Death also after the Death of my Wife my will that Aggy, Dick & Julia & their Increase be Equally Devided Between all my Children also I leave all my money & notes in the house & in Allen Wards hands to Be Equally Devided Between all my children & my wife my will & Desire is that my wife Absaly Ward Shall (can’t read) and support my two younger Children & give them suffi- Schooling at her Expense also I desire my wife Shall furnish my Son Baker Ward with one years provision when he comes to age he & his Negroes.
I give unto my son Baker Ward two yound Stears, also after the Death of wife that all the Estate She leaves to be Equally Devided between my Six Children, also my will that all my stock of Cattle & Sheep that I have not already given away be sold by my Executor & be Equally devided Between my wif & Six Children, I hereby Revok Disa (can’t read0 and Disown all & every other will givt of bequest Rutifying and confirming this this & no other to be my last Will & Testament.

4th I give an bequeath un to my three sons Silas Jacob an Jordan White all the remainer of my lands to hears ever to be found to be equally devied among them in value after my wifes deceases or widow hood an if either of my three forenamed sons should die before they arrive to the age of twenty one years its my will that their part of my land should be divided among the surviving sons before named to their hers for ever. _______
5th I lend unto my belove wife Elizabeth White the use an (can’t read) of all the remainder of my land during her natural life or widowhood I also lend five negros naly nance – Sam Washanton – Silpha an Mingo I also lend un to my wife all the remaner of my property after giving som legacyes (can’t read) after named during her natural life or widow hood an if my wife should marry it is my Will that all my estate be equaley divided among my Children agreeable to the latter claims of my will.
6th I give an bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Forehand one feather bed an furniture an som other articles witch she has now in her persession. I all so give her one half of a Negro boy Sambo to she and her heirs for ever.
7th I give an bequeath unto my Daughter Christan Goodden one feather bed an furniture an som other articles witch she has now in her pursession I also give her one half of a Negro boy by the name of Sambo to she an her heirs for ever
8th I give an bequeath unto my Daughter Charity White one feather bed an furniture an one half of a Negro boy Washinton an ten dollars in Mony to she an her heirs for ever.
9th I give an bequeath un to my Daughter Elizabeth White one feather bed an furniture one half of Negro boy Wasinton an ten dollars in Mony to she an her heirs forever. ____________

13th it is my will that Negro Jim be hired out to pay the debtes an legacyes an after the deth of my wife or marriage an the debts an legacys are paid it is my will that all the rest of my negros that are not wild a way be equally devided among my three youngest sons Silas Jacob an Jordan White to them an their heairs for ever _______

(names daughter, Rachel White who was the wife of John White & mother of Silas White)In the name of God amen to all People to Whom these presents shall come I Charles Jordan of the County of Chowan and the Province of North Carolina planter send greeting know ye that I being unwell of body but of perfect mind and sound of memory and good judgment thanks be to God for the same do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth--
First it is my will and mind that all my just debts and burial expenses be first paid by my Executors her after named.
I give and bequeath to my son Charles Jordan three Negroes namely Cain and Sal and Sue to him and his heirs for Ever and also five pounds of proclamation money.
I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Smith five pounds proclamation money She having already Received a sufficient part of my Estate which I give unto her and her heirs for Ever.
I give and bequeath unto my son John Jordan two Negroes the one a girl the other a boy to be purchased out of my Estate and also one feather bed and furniture all which I give unto him and his heirs for Ever.
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Leah Smith one feather bed and furniture and one pot and hooks and one pouter Dish and three pouter pleats to her and her heirs for Ever She heaving already received a sufficient part of my Estate all which I give to her and her heirs for Ever.

I give and bequeath unto my son James Jordan five pounds proclamation money he having already received a sufficient part of my Estate all which I give unto him and his heirs for Ever.
I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Jordan five pounds proclamation money and also the use and Leabour of one Negro man During his Natureal Life and after his descease I do give the above said Negro man if then living unto Charles Jordan son of the above said Robert Jordan to him and his heirs for Ever but if in case the above said Robert Jordan should decease before his said son Charles Jordan should arrive to the age of twenty one years my will and pleasure is that the above said Negro man should be returned back to my Executor to be hired out for the use and benefit of said orphan until he arrive to the age of twenty one years and then to be delivered to him if living for him and his heirs for Ever which said Negro is to be your purchased out of my Estate and Delivered at the discretion of my Executor.
I give and bequeath unto my son Jacob Jordan the manner Plantation whereon I now liveth with all the houses orchards and all other Wrights and privileges there unto belonging or in by my ways pertaining and all my other lands and tenements with all the Wrights and propertys that I myself can possess or enjoy to him and his heirs for Ever and I also give and bequeath unto my said son Jacob Jordan Eleven Negroes Namely as followeth two Negro men named Tom and Mingo and one Negro woman named Venus and her children namely Rose & Fillis & Peiter & Isaac & Spencer and one Negro woman named Hannah and her children namely Buck & Amee and all their increase to him and his heirs for Ever and also I give and bequeath to my said son Jacob Jordan all the rest and residue of my goods and chattels real and personal Estate after payment of my Debts Legacies and funeral Expenses and unto my said son Jacob Jordan Whome I make and ordain my whole and sole Executor of this my last will and testament I give Devise and bequeath to him and his heirs all and Every of my (can’t read) as land tenements and hired itaments (?) whatsoever and wheresoever which I also charge with the payment of my said legacies and I do hereby Disalowe, Revoke, Disannul all and Every other former testament wills and legacies bequested and Executors by me or in any ways before this same named will and bequeathed Ratifying and confirming this only and no other to be my last will and testament In witness Whereof I have here unto Set my hand and fixed my seal this Sixth Day of September In the Year of our Lord God Everlasting Omne Dom: one thousand eight hundred seventy one.
