OAKDALE COTTON MILLS

A new book entitled Oakdale Cotton Mills by Mary A. Browning and Patricia M. Koehler is being published by Arcadia Publishing Co. It will be released for sale on September 21, 2009.

The book is a pictorial history of Oakdale Cotton Mills, in continuous operation in Jamestown, NC, since 1865 (just closing its doors this year). This is as much a history of the mill village and mill employees as of the mill itself, relying heavily on interviews of employees and their families, many of whom had been employed at Oakdale for several generations. The book will be available at local bookstores and online. Complete information on the book may be found at http://www.arcadiapublishing.com.

A special book signing of Oakdale Cotton Mills will be held at Oakdale United Methodist Church, in the Fellowship Hall, on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2-5 pm. The church is located at 532 Oakdale Rd. in Jamestown, NC. The price of the book is $21.99.
