**  Transcription of S. M. King murder inquisition:

State of North Carolina, Henderson County     An inquisition inducted and taken at the house of S. M. King in said county this 30 day of Nov 1887 before the undersigned coroner of said county upon view of the body of S. M. King late of Henderson County, then and there lying dead, upon the oath of G. P. Liverett, W. A. Stradley, W. A. Hood, E. M. Merrill, S. M. Gillam, S. R. Stroup good and lawful men of said county who being charged and sworn how and in what manner the said S. M. King by his death cause:  Upon their oath do say that on the 29th day of November 1887 Boney Laughter of the county by force and arms did assault the said S. M. King being then and there in the peace of God and the State and the said Boney Laughter with a knife in his right hand then and there held feloniously and in his malice aforethought did give the aforesaid S. M. King one mortal wound on the left side of his breast of the breadth one and one half inches of which wound the said S. M. King instantly died.  so the said S. M. King him the said Bone Laughter then and there feloniously  killed and unlawfully murdered contrary to the Peace and dignity of the State.  We further find that John Lyda was then and there aiding and abetting the same.  The said coroner and overseers aforesaid this inspection have severally put our seals this 30 day of Nov 1887

NOTE:  S. M. King was Samuel Morgan King, son of Hiram and Nancy Jones King.  Widow was Emily Maxwell King - daughters  Amanda, M. Juno and Sarah
