The Railroad House, built in 1872, is the oldest house in Sanford. Built by the Raleigh & Augusta Airline Railroad, it has served as the home of Sanford’s first mayor as well as a schoolhouse. Currently, it is a museum dedicated to the history of Sanford and Lee County. Inside, are displays of artifacts and pictures detailing life in the area from the 1874 to the present. It is currently open to the public various hours Monday through Friday. |
