Martin County Soldiers in the War with Mexico, 1846 - 48

The following article was published on April 27, 1859, in the Williamston Mercury.  J.H. Foy and A. S. Williams, Editors and Proprietors.

 

"Names of the soldiers from the County of Martin, all volunteers, who served in the war with Mexico, in 1846. They belonged to the Company 'E' commanded by Capt. William S. Duggan, of Edgecombe.

John S. Getsinger, --1st sergeant.
Sylvanno Tumbro, --Corporal.
Isaac N. Perry, Musician -- discharged at Camargo 26th April 1847.
James D. Gardner, Musician,
Gideon Barnhill, private, died in hospital at Matamoras, Mexico, 21 March 1847.
John Bland, private.
William Griffin, died in Camp near Camargo, May 19th.
Wright Griffin, died in Camp, at Buena Vista, July 6, 1847.
Patrick Hardy, died in Camp near Camargo, April 27, 1847.
Dawson Harrison,
George W. Holiday,
Dempsey D. Jones,
Calvin Parker, discharged at Matamoras, May 15, 1847.
Jacob D. Parker,
Simon Perry,
William R. Price,
Alfred Roberson,
Perry Robertson,
John Taylor, died in hospital at Monterey, July 5, 1847.
Standley Vick,
Jesse Whitley, discharged at Matamoras, May 15, 1847.
Warren Williams, died in hospital, at Saltillo, Feb. 13, 1848.
Willie Williams, died in hospital, at Saltillo, March 25th 1847.

Those not noted as died or discharged, returned from Mexico to Fortress Munroe, Va., and were discharged on 28th July 1848. "
