The Society's main objective is to promote the collection, publication, preservation, and utilization of manuscripts, documents, and other materials of genealogical and/or historical value.

The Society works to increase interest in and share knowledge of research aids through educational programs, workshops, and publications.

It also encourages and acquaints members with sources of material and serves as a medium for the exchange of genealogical information.
