Our Research Policy
Research Policy Adopted by the Board, April 30, 2001
Resolved that the MGS, as a nonprofit organization, does not provide research services either voluntarily or for fee.
Resolved that the MGS will post its research policy on its website, its new member letter, and in its newsletter.
Resolved that the Recording Secretary shall maintain a roster of MGS members who provide genealogy research for profit or voluntarily. Submissions to the roster will be solicited in the MGS new member letter, periodic announcements at society meetings, and in its newsletter.
Resolved that the member research roster shall be placed in alphabetical order on the MGS website, and when space permits it will be placed in the newsletter.
Resolved that all research requests will be forwarded to the Corresponding Secretary. The requestor shall be provided with the list of researchers and with an appropriate MGS disclaimer.
Resolved that the following disclaimer shall be attached to all correspondence regarding research requests:
“Regrettably, we cannot respond to research requests. However, we are sending you a list of members who do research. Please be advised that the MGS neither recommends or receives compensation from this referral. The referral is made as a courtesy only.”
Resolved that any complaints about referrals shall be considered by the Board, and at its discretion the Board may remove a researcher from the list.
