Samuel Elks of Princess Anne County, Virginia in 1764 received money from
the estate of Obediah Moore for the upkeep of his orphans Obediah Moore,
age 5 and James Moore, age 3.  Samuel Elks received grant in Pitt County in
1781 and Obediah Moore was chain bearer.

    This Indenture made the First day of February in the year of our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred and sixty two between Samuel Elks of the County of Princess Anne & Colony of Virginia and Francis Williamson of the County of Norfolk & Colony aforesaid witnesseth that for & consideration of the sum Seventy Pounds current money of Virginia to the said Samuel Elks in hand paid by the said Francis Williamson at or before the Sealing and Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge & therefore doth release acquit & discharge the said Francis Williamson his heirs executors and Adm:rs by these presents he the said Samuel Elks hath granted bargained sold aliened released and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell alien release and confirm unto the said Francis Williamson his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract of land situate in the parish of Black Water in the County of Princess Anne containing one hundred and fifty acres .  One hundred acres of the aforesaid land lying & being in John Elks patent and on the south side of the said John Elks patent and is the Plantation and land formerly belonging to Marmaduke Elks.  The other fifty acres of land above granted being surveyed and Patent by Marmaduke Elks binding on the aforesaid hundred acres of land to the Northward & bounded to the Eastward by Gibbs Line & to the westward by John Elks Line to have and hold the said hundred & fifty acres with all the houses buildings orchards water courses profits commodityes hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises hereby granted or any part thereof belonging or in any wise appurttaining and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof and also all the estate right title interest use trust and property claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Samuel Elks of in and to the said premises and all deeds evidences and writings touching or in any wise concerning the same to have and to hold the said hundred and fifty acres of land and all & singular other the premises hereby granted and released & every part and parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Francis Williamson his heirs & assigns forever to the only proper use & behoof of him the said Francis Williamson and of his heirs and assigns.  And the said Samuel Elks for himself his heirs executors and Adm:rs doth covenant promise and grant to and with the said Francis Williamson his heirs & assigns that the said Samuel Elks now at the time of Sealing and delivery these presents is ____ of a good sure and perfect and indefensible estate of inheritance in fee simple of and in the premises hereby granted and released and that he hath good power and carefull and absolute authority to grant and convey the same to the said Francis Williamson in manner and form aforesaid.  And that the said premises now are and is forever shall remain & be free & clear of and from all former and other gifts grants bargains sales dower right and title of dower judgments execution titles troubles charges & incumbrances whatsoever made done commited or suffered by the said Samuel Elks or any other person or persons whatsoever.  The quitrents hereafter to grow due & payable to our Sovereign Lord the King his heirs & successors for & in respect of the said premises only excepted & forenized and lastly that the said Samuel Elks for himself and his heirs all and singular the premises hereby granted & released with their appurtenances unto the said Francis Williamson his heirs & assigns against him the said Samuel Elks and his heirs & all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall & will warrant & for ever defend by these presents in witness whereof the said Samuel Elks have hereunto sett his hand Seal the day and year first above
written.
