NOTE:  The sword of one of the Hudsons involved in the Civil War is in the possesion of a member of the family.  It is the opinion of this researcher that this sword is Redding Hudson's.
1.  Reddin Hudson commission a Third Leiutennet of Capt. Bryant Smith's
 company of 19th Regment of militia of County of Pitt the 10th day of Oct one
 thousand eight hundred fifty.
2.  Redding Hudson commissioned 2nd Liut Taft Company of the 19th Reg Militia for County of Pitt on Oct 14 one thousand eight hundred and fifty one
3.  Reddin Hudson commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Taft District in the 19th Regiment North Carolina militia in Pitt County August 2nd. 1861  (WBK NOTE:  Redding would have been about 39 years old.)
