The 1850 Pitt County, NC, Federal Census
Mortality Schedule

Transcribed from microfilm and contributed by Elizabeth Ross

Jno. A. Selby, Assistant Marshall, submitted the following list of persons in Pitt County who had died during the year prior to the taking of the 1850 Federal Census in North Carolina. The dates on the Population Schedule, also submitted by Mr. Selby, cover the period from June through November, 1850.

Mr. Selby did not record the surnames of black persons. It might be assumed that the surname was the same as that of the last white recorded above that particular line. Be cautioned that such an assumption has been made for the sake of an index, and be ready to question slave surnames. Color was not indicated unless the person was other than white; place of birth was given only if outside of North Carolina.

See also the Population Schedule, beginning with Part 1.
