Isaac Stocks to Isaac Hardee, March 19, 1791
Pitt Deed Book M, p. 588

This Indenture made this 19th of March in the Year of our Lord Christ One thousand Seven hundred & Ninety One. Between Isaac STOCKS in Pitt County and State of North Carolina of the One part and Isaac HARDEE of the State and County aforsd. of the other part Witnesseth that the said Isaac STOCKS for and in consideration of the Sum of thirty Pounds Current Money of the State aforsd. to him in hand paid by the aforsd. Isaac HARDEE at and upon Sealing of these Presents the Receipt Whereof I do hereby Acknowledge, and myself therewith fully Satisfied & Contented. Hath Bargaind Granted and Sold & assigned Set over unto the said Isaac HARDEE, Son of William HARDEE his heirs and Assigns forever a Tract of Land lying and being in Pitt County & on Swift Creek, Beginning at a Water Oak on the Powels Swamp being the Beginning Tree of Shadk. ALLENS Patent and Runs from thence said Swamp to the Mouth Thereof from thence Runing down Swift Creek Swamp to the mouth of the first Small branch, from thence the Various Courses of said Branch to back line of said Shad. ALLEN Patent from thence to the Begining Containing by Estimation One hundred Acres be the same more or lerss. To have and to hold the aforsd. one hundred Acres of Land with the Appertanances and all Rights and Priveledges and improvements to the Same in any wise belonging to him said Isaac HARDEE for himself his heirs and Assigns for Ever, doth hereby Covenant and with the said Isaac HARDEE that the said Isaac HARDEE, his heirs and assigns shall and may for Ever hereafter Peaceably and Quietly have hold Occupy possess and Enjoy the aforsd. Land and premises without molestation of any person whatever, and Clear from all manner of Incumberances whatsoever and the said Isaac STOCKS do oblidge himself his heirs Excrs. Admns. or assigns To warrant and for Ever defend unto the said Isaac HARDEE his heirs for ever the aforsd. Granted Land and premises against the Lawfull Claim of any person or persons whatsoever and In Witness hereunto I have set my hand and fixed my Seal this 19th day of March 1791—

This Indenture Made this 31st day of January One thousand Seven hundred and Ninety Two. Between William STOCKS & Shadrach ALLEN of the Same State & County of the Other part Witnesseth that the sd. William STOCKS for and in consideration of the Sum of One hundred pounds Current money to him in hand paid at or before the sealing & Delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof he doth Acknowledge hath Granted bargained Sold & by these presents, Doth Grant bargain & Sell, alien & Confirm unto the said Shadrach ALLEN his heirs & Assigns for Ever a Certain Tract or parcel of Land Situated lying & being in the County of Pitt Beginning at the Mouth of the Meadow Branch a Gum Runing up the Creek, now Generaly Called the fork Swamp to a branch agreed upon Between John WILLIAMS & Thomas HARDEE which branch has been Considered a dividing branch Between the Plantation where Thomas HARDEE formerly lived & Isaac STOCKS Senr. then Runing up that branch to the Back line to a White Oak a Dividing Tree, then Down the Back line to the Meadow Branch, then down the Various Courses of the Meadow branch to the first Station Containing One hundred Acres more or less, Patented by Shadrach ALLEN Senr. Paten bearing Date June 6th 1752. Conveyed from Shadrach ALLEN to John WILLIAMS, from John WILLIAMS to Isaac STOCKS, from Isaac STOCKS to his son William STOCKS, from Wm. STOCKS to Shadrach ALLEN in Reference to said Titles will more fully appear & also Two hundred Acres more being given to the sd William STOCKS, with the Tract above Mentioned in his Fathers last will and Testament------
To have and to hold the aforsd. tracts of Land & premises unto him the said Shadrach ALLEN, his heirs and Assigns for Ever, to the only proper use unto him the said Shadrach ALLEN, his heirs & Assigns for Ever, & the sd. William STOCKS for for myself my heirs Excrs. Admrs. or Assigns do hereby Warrant & defend the sd Land & premises against sall & sd manner of persons Claiming from by or under, him or them will warrant & for Ever Defend the aforsd. Tracts of Land with Every profit & advantage therewith Belonging, Ways waters or Water Courses Minds Minerals Heredetiments and Appurtanaces to the sd. Land belonging or Apportimony will warrant & for Ever Defend unto him the Shadrach ALLEN, his heirs & assigns for Ever the Grave Yard excepted only which is near or under a persimmon Tree About thirty feet in Length & Ten feet Wide & No more. Know all men by these presents that I Elizabeth STOCKS of the County and State aforsd. for and In consideration of the sum of Seventy Two pounds to me in hand paid by John DEW of the County and State aforsd. whereof I do hereby Acknowledge the Receipt and myself therewith fully Satisfied have Bargained Sold & Delivered and by these presents do bargain Sell and Deliver unto the said John DEW One Negro man named Ben. To have and to hold to the Proper use and behoof of him the said John DEW his heirs Excrs. Admrs. and Assigns for Ever and I the said Elizabeth STOCKS for myself and heirs Excrs. Admrs. the said bargained Negro unto the said John DEW his heirs Excrs. This Indenture made This the 28th day of April One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Four Between Absolom CAUSEY & Frances CAUSEY his wife of the State of North Carolina and County of Craven of the One part & Shadrach ALLEN of the same State & County of Pitt of the Other part Witnesseth that for and inconsideration of the sum of Forty five pounds to them in hand paid by the Said Shadrach ALLEN the receipt whereof they do hereby Acknowledge themselves fully Satisfyd & paid hath Bargained & Sold & by these presents do Bargained sell set over & Confirm unto the said Shadrach ALLEN A Certain tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the County of Pitt on the North side of Swift Creek & No Side of Turkey Cock Swamp Joining the said Shadrach ALLENS Own land It being the Land & plantation where Isaac STOCKS Decd. formerly lived Containing four Hundred Acres more or less part of the said Land and plantation Pattend by Isaac STOCKS & a part purchased of Shadrach ALLEN decd. & the Half of the sd. Land & plantation Conveyed by the said Isaac STOCKS to his Daughter Frances STOCKS by the Last Will & Testament of the said Isaac STOCKS and we the said Absolom CAUSEY & Frances his Wife do Warrant and forever Defend unto him the said Shadrach ALLEN his Heirs & assigns for ever the Half of the said Land and Plantation which being Two Hundred Acres more or less from our Heirs our selves Administrators or Assigns to have and to hold the said Land & premises with every profit & Advantage thereunto belonging with all Buildings Orchards Fields & fences water & water Courses unto him the said Shadrach ALLEN his Heirs Exctrs. or Assigns forever & we the said Absolom CAUSEY & Frances CAUSEY do warrant & forever defend the said Land & premises from the Lawfull Claim or Claims of any person or persons Whatsoever

This Indenture made This the 24th of December One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety One between Phillip CAUSEY & Susanna CAUSEY his wife of the One part of the County of Pitt & State of North Carolina & Shadrach ALLEN of the same State & County aforesaid of the Other Part Witnesseth that for and inconsideration of the sum of Fifty four pounds to the said Phillip & Susanna CAUSEY to them in hand paid by the Said Shadrach ALLEN at or before the Sealing & Delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof we do hereby Acknowledge and therefore doth release acquit & Discharge our Executors Admrs & by these presents he the said Phillip CAUSEY & Susanna CAUSEY have granted bargained sold Alined & Confirmed unto the said Shadrach ALLEN his Heirs & assigns a Certain piece or parcel of Land Situated lying and being in the County of Pitt & State afsd. laying on Swift Creek extending to or near Turkey Cock Swamp it being the Half of the Land & plantation where Isaac STOCKS formerly Lived and also being the Half of the Four Hundred Acres which the aforesaid Isaac STOCKS gave to his Daughter Susanna now the wife of the said Phillip CAUSEY It being the Half of Four Hundred Acres more or less. To have and to hld the aforesaid Land and premises unto with every profit & Advantage thereunto belong with all Houses buildings Orchards ways waters & water Courses profitts & Commodities heredeties unto appertenances whatsoever to the said premises hereby Granted or any part thereof belonging or in anywise Appertaining & the reversion or reversions remainder remainders Issues & profitts thereof & all the Estate Right Title & Interest unto the said Shadrach ALLEN his Heirs & assigns for ever & we the said Phillip CAUSEY Susanna CAUSEY do Warrant & Defend the aforesd. Tract of Land from themselves their Heirs Admrs. & Assigns unto him the said Shadrach ALLEN his Heirs Exctrs. Begining at an ash and Maple in the edge of the swamp of the fork swamp of swift creek the uper corner on sd swamp of widows dower then running the Dower line west 34 poles to a stake in center of three pines then South the plantation 200 poles to a gum and small white Oak on the main prong of swift Creek then down the main prong of Swift Creek to the fork prong of Swift creek then up the fork prong Swift Creek and winding thereof to begining Containing fifty four & one half acres Valued at 15/ L40.17.6
Lott No. 5 Furney STOCKS to pay Amos STOCKES the sum of 32.8.9 to make his Share Equal in value----

Lott No. 8 we have lade off and set apart unto John STOCKS one of the Heirs of said Decd. his share in the following manner Begining at a large pine in the Edge of Swift Creek in the given line of the 500 Acre survey then runing north 80 degr. Wt. 220 pole to a stake in the center of three Jacks said STOCKS corner then along his line south 49 degrees wt. 76 pole thence south 152 to a pine then East 49 pole to a line of marked trees made by Simon BURNEY Senr. & John STOCKS Senr. then along that line of the marked trees now James HANDCOCKS line to a red oak on the Spring branch then down the apor? Spring branch and said line trees made at random to a white Oak on Swift Creek then east 29 pole to the given line of 500 Acre pattent then along that line north 184 degrees west to the begining Containing 161 Acres Valued @ 8/-- L64.8 Abraham STOCKS to pay John STOCKS L6..5- Henry STOCKS pays John STOCKS L2.13.3
Lott No. 9 we have of & set apart unto Henry STOCKS one of the Heirs of said Deced his Share in the following manner Viz Begining at a large pine on the Edge of Swift Creek in the giving line of the 500 Acre pattent John STOCKS Begining then runing John STOCKSS line No. 80 degrees wt. 220 pole to a stake in the center of three Jack oaks and James HANDCOCKS line then his No. 48.d Et. 280 pole to a small white oak on Swift Creek Swamp the last corner of the 500 acre pattent then the giving line of the said pattent to the begining containing 152 Acres Valued @ 10/ L 76 Henry STOCKS pays John STOCKS L2.13.3

This Indenture made This the Second day of May in the year of our lord one thousand Eight hundred and three Between Philip COSWAY and Susanna CAUSEY his wife of the County of Craven and State of North Carolina of the one part and Shade ALLEN of the County of Pitt and State of North Carolina of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the Sum of twenty pounds Current Money in hand paid unto the Said Philip COSSEY and Susanna his wife by the Said Shade ALLEN hath bargained and Sold by these presents and do hereby give grant Convey and set over unto the said Shade ALLEN his heirs and assigns forever a Certain track or parcel of land lying and and being in the County of Pitt & State of North Carolina aforesaid Begining at a stake where formerly stood a water Oak formerly ALLENS Corner on the South edge of powels Swamp Near the Edge of the Road now HARDEES Corner and Runs with said line South 13 East 105 pole to a poast oak in Said line on the west side of the Road thence with a line of Marked trees through Powels Swamp to a pine in the Island of Said Swamp in gum thicket in Said Island of the Said Swamp then North 82 West to the begining Containing fifty Acres more or less Containing the land where the Widow Sarah STOCKES Now lives Patented by Isaac STOCKES Senr Joining the land of Shade ALLEN he bought of Wm STOCKES to have and to hold the aforesaid track of land with all and every preveledge profit and advantage of every kind as the Said land in any wise belonging unto the sd. Shadrick ALLEN his heirs and assigns forever and we the Said Philip CAUSEY and Susanna CAUSEY do hereby oblidge ourselves our hiers Administrators Executors or assigns to warrent ourselves And defend forever unto him the said Shadereck ALLEN his hiers and assigns forever the Said premises free and Clear from the Claim of any person or persons whatsoever In Witness whereof we have hereunto Set our hands and Seals the day and year first above written

This Indenture made the 27th of September 1806 Between Margret, John and Rachel STOCKS on one part and Dennis CANNON Junr. on the other Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the Sum of one hundred Dollars to us in Hand paid unto the Said Dennis CANNON the Receipt whereof we do acknowledge that we are fully Satisfied and Lawfully Paid have bargained Sold and for we set over Unto him the Said Dennis CANNON he his Heirs and assigns forever a certain Tract of Land Situated in the State of North Carolina Pitt County in Swift Creek in Swamp Being part of a Pattent granted to John CAUSEY for four hundred Acres Bearing Date the 28th April 1762, Beginning at a gum in the creek Run The upper line of Said patent and Runs with Said line South one hundred and fifty one poles to a pine on the edge of the creek then South Seventy two East, Twenty two poles to a water Oak then North Eighty two East twenty eight poles to a water oak thence South forty one East forty four poles to a red oak Thence South twenty one East thirty two pole to a water oak thence North Sixty one East eighteen poles to a water oak thence North fifty five East forty poles to a Stake centered by two water oaks and a gum thence North forty eight pole to the Creek Run then with the various courses of the Same to the Beginning for Eighty eight Acres To have and to hold the land Hereby conveyed with all the appurtanances there unto Belonging to which Presents we bind ourselves our heirs Executors Administrators and assigns to warrant ourselves and forever Defend the same to him the Said Dennis CANNON Junr. his heirs Executors administrators and assigns for ever in peaceable and quiet possession to have possess and enjoy the Same free and Clear from the Lawful claim or claims of any person or persons Claiming any Right Title or Interest therein In Witness whereof we herewith set our Hands and Seals Day and Date above written---

This Indenture made the 2nd day of February 1815 between Cannon STOCKS of the one part & Palmer CANNON on the both of the State of North Carolina & County of Pitt witnesseth that for an inconsideration of the Sum of eight hundred dollars in hand paid by the Said STOCKS the receipt whereof I the said CANNON doth acknowledge him self fully satisfied & paid hath bargain Sold & forever set over unto him the Said STOCK acertain tract or parcel of land Situated in the State & County aforesaid being part of 3 Pattents one for 20 acres & the other for 150 Acres & the other for 30 Acres beginning at two water oaks on the South Side of Jumping run which formerly stood a post oak which tree was the beginning of the Said 2 pattents & runs from there with said pattent line No 61 degrees west 155 pole to a Stake thence No 25 degrees east 55 pole to a pine then So 61 degrees east 155 pole to a light wood Stake 20 Acres pattent line in a meadow thence east 32 pole to Dennis CANNON line then with Said line 30 degrees W 90 pole to a pine in Said line thence So 60 degrees east 110 pole to a oak in flat Swamp thence So 30 degrees W 44 pole & 4 links or 4/10 to the center of an oak and a bay then No. 60 degrees W 110 pole to the Center of an oak & a gum then So 30 degrees W 29 poles & six links to a lightwood Stump Dennis CANNON corner & also the corner of the 2 Acre pattent & then to the beginning for two hundred acres to have & to hold the aforesaid land with all improvements priveleges & appurtanances there unto belonging to him the Said STOCK he his heirs & assigns for ever to which presents he the Said Palmer CANNON doth bind himself his heirs & assigns warrant & forever defend the Said premises to him the Said STOCKS his heirs & assigns forever in peacable possession against the lawful claim of any person whatsoever Witness whereof he the Said CANNON hath hereunto Set his hand & Seale dated above Palmer CANNON {Seal}

payment which the said Asa STOCKS is Disposed honestly to secure and provide for now of the said Asa STOCKS his heirs Executors or administrators shall pay him the space of twelve months from the Date Executors administrators or assigns the aforesaid sum of Six hundred and six Dollars and seventy six cents with legal [___] there an as afore said and all other sums and amounts that the said Asa STOCKS may hereafter contract or become indebted for to the said Walter HANRAHAN by note or book account or otherwise together all expenses of Drawing and recording of this [___] and in that case that the said William PUGH his Executors administrators or assigns Shall at the request and at the cost [__]changes of the said Asa STOCKS his Executors or administrators all the [__]and interest which the Said William PUGH Shall have in the personal and real Estate conveyed to him as aforesaid by Virtue of these presents but if the Said Asa STOCKS his heirs Executors or administrators shall not not within the aforesaid shall of twelve months from [___] of this presents or Sooner of thereunto Required by the said Walter HANRAHAN his Executors administrators or assigns will and [___] or cause to be paid unto the said Walter HANRAHAN his Executors administrators or assigns the sum of Six hundred and Six dollars and seventy six with legal interest thereon as aforesaid and other sums and amounts that the said Asa STOCKS may hereafter contract or become indebted for to the said Walter HANRAHAN either by note or book account or otherwise together with the Expenses of drawing and recording this Deed then it Shall and may be lawful and this deed for express Trust that the Said William PUGH haveing first advertised the said tracts or parcels of land the four negro slaves and with their Increase all my stock all my household and kitchen furneture at three public places in the County of Pitt should the Same or So much thereof as may be Sufficient to Satisfy the purposes of this Trust at public auction to the highest Bidder with Ready money and out of the monies arising from said sale shall pay to the Said Walter HANRAHAN his Executors administrators or assigns the afore said Sum of Six hundred and Six dollars and seventy six cents with the Interest thereon as aforesaid and all [___] sums that the said Asa STOCKS may hereafter become Indebted to the said Walter HANRAHAN either by Note open account or other together with the expenses attendant on this Tract and the balance of the money of any shall pay to the Asa STOCKS his Executors administrators or assigns and if the [___] of this Trust are answered by a sale of less then whole of the real and personal Estate as aforesaid in persuance of the object of the Trust then that the Remainder thereof Shall but by the Said William PUGH his Executors administrators or assigns to the Said Asa STOCKS his Executors administrators or assigns in the Same manner as the whole thereof would be Conveying to the Agreement of the parties as Expressed in the first part of this deed in case the debt due to the Said Walter HANRAHAN and the Interest as aforesaid and all other debts Said Asa STOCKS may hereafter become bound to to the Walter HANRAHAN for Either by note book account or otherwise together with all Expenses attending this Trust were paid Said Asa STOCKS without resorting to a Sale and the Said Asa STOCKS for himself his heirs Executors Administrators doth covenant to and with the Said William PUGH his Executors administrators and assigns that he the Said Asa STOCKS his Executors and Administrators from time to time and at all times a Sale of the aforesaid real and personal Estate Shall in the persuance of the object of this Trust Shall and when reasonably be required by the Said William PUGH Said Walter HANRAHAN or Either of their heirs Executors administrators or assigns make do and execute all Such particular acts and assurance in the Law for the mane effect conveying to the purchaser or purchasers of the aforesaid real and personal Estate under and by Virtue of this deed then or when their Executors administrators or assigns a full Compleat and perfect title in Said real and personal Estate so disposed from the legal or Equitable Claim of all persons whereas the Said William PUGH or the Said Walter HANRAHAN their or Either of their Executors administrators or assigns require and further the Said Asa STOCKS for himself his heirs Executors and administrators doth Covenant and agree to and [___] Said Walter HANRAHAN his Executors administrators and assigns that he the Said Asa This Indenture made and entered into this the first day of February one thousand eight hundred and twenty six Between Cannon STOCKS of the one part and Randolph ADKIN of the other part before of the State of North Carolina & County of Pitt witnesseth that I the aforesaid Cannon STOCKS for and in consideration of the sum of Seventy five dollars to me in hand paid by the said Randolp ADKIN the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge my self satisfyed contented and paid have bargained and Sold and by these presents do bargain and sell convey and confirm unto the said Randolph ADKIN his heirs & assigns forever acertain piece or parcel of land lying in the said county on the North side of Big Contentnea and South side of Swift Creek Beginning at a lightwood Stake in Jumping run the corner of the heirs of Willie CANNON Decd. thence runing their line Sounth Seventy nine degrees one hundred and fifty four poles to a pine thence north seventy two and a third degrees west fifty two and two thirds poles to three dead pines John STOCKS Corner thence north twenty nine east one Hundred and fifty six poles to a stake in Cannon STOCKS line thence with his line to adtale ? on the side of his fence then with his fence to the Brance then with the various courses of the said Branch to the beginning Containing by estimation forty nine acres be the same more or less the above bargin one third of a Pateen granted to Edward CANNON for one Hundred and fifty Acres bearing date Nov. 15, 1762 which the said Edward CANNON gave to his son Jacob CANNON and the said Jacob CANNON being without lawfull Issue desend’d to his brothers and in the Division of the said Land the above fifty Acres was set apart to Palmer CANNON and by him sold to Willie MCROYE and from the said MCROYE to Cannon STOCKS and from STOCKS to Randolph ADKIN. To have and to hold the aforesaid fifty Acres of land unto the aforesaid Randolph ADKIN his heirs and assigns forever and I the aforesaid Cannon STOCKS do for my self my7 Heirs and assigns forever warrant and defend the write and title of the above land and improvements to be free and clear of all manner of despute whatsoever unto him the said Randolph ADKIN his heirs and assigns forever against the lawfull claim or claims of all person or persons whatsoever In witness whereof I have hereunto set his hand and Seal the day and date above written

Pitt County Know all men by these presents that I Allen STOCKS of the one part & Arthur TRIPP of the other part both of the State and county aforesaid Witness that I the said Allen STOCKS for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred & seventy dollars to me in hand paid by the said Arthur TRIPP at or before the signing & delivering of these presents have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain & sell unto the said TRIPP a certain tract of land lying in the State & county aforesaid & on the south side of Tar River & on the west side of Swift Creek bounded as follows beginning at a Gum in the reedy branch in Arden TUCKERS line thence south seventy east seventy two poles to the rim of Swift Creek swamp then down the run of said swamp to the mouth of the reedy branch then up the various courses of said branch to the beginning containing one hundred & twenty five acres be the same more or less and I the said STOCKS do for my self my heirs & assigns warrant & forever defend unto the said TRIP him his Heirs & assigns the aforesaid tract of land forever in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand & affixed my seal this 4th day of January 1836--

Know all men by these presents that I Susan STOCKS for and in consideration of the just and full sum of three hundred & thirteen dollars and Sixty five cents to me in hand paid by John STOCKS the receipt I hereby acknowledge and I therewith satisfied and paid for a negro Girl named of Cherry now about seven years of age the title of the above mentioned negro Girl I warrant & forever defend against the lawful claim or claims of all and every person whatsoever for which I bind myself my heirs Executors and administrators and assigns forever unto my Son John STOCKS to him his heirs Executors and administrators and assigns forever In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this the 31st day of May 1837.

Whereas at March Term A.D. 1853, of the Court of Equity for Pitt County upon the Petition of Nancy STOCKS & others by their Guardian & Elizabeth STOCKS. The Clerk and Master of said court was ordered to expose to public sale the tract of Land hereafter mentioned on a credit of six months; in pursuance of which said decree the Clerk and Master on the third day of May, 1853, at the Court house in Greenville did expose to public sale the said tract of Land at public auction, when and where John STOCKS became the purchaser at the sum of five hundred and one dollars; and at September term A.D. 1853, of said court, it appearing , by the report of the Clerk and Master, that the purchase money had been paid; it was ordered, adjudged and decreed by the Court, that the Clerk and Master make title to the purchaser. Therefore this Indenture Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the premises and in obedience to the order of said Court, I Goold HOYT Clerk and Master in equity for the County aforesaid, have bargained granted, and sold, and by these presents do bargain, grant and sell unto the said John STOCKS a certain tract of Land situated in the county of Pitt adjoining the Land of John STOCKS & others estimated to contain two hundred & forty acres Descended to said Heirs by the death of Cannon STOCKS containing two hundred & forty acres more or less, to have and to hold the premises hereby bargained and sold to the said John STOCKS his heirs and assigns forever, in fee simple absolute, and the said Goold HOYT Clerk and Master aforesaid hath covenanted and by these presents doth covenant to and with the said John STOCKS his heirs and assigns, to warrant and forever defend the title hereby from the lawful claims of any kind and all persons; so far forth as his office of Clerk and Master, and the powers confered, and the duties imposed by the said Court of Equity requires and no farther. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Four hundred & Sixty Dollars in hand paid to the party of the first part by the party of the second part before signing and sealing of these presents the receipt and payment whereof is hereby acknowledged the said party of the first part hath bargained, sold, aliened enfeoffed conveyed & confirmed and do by these presents bargain sell alien enfeoff convey and confirm unto the said William BURNEY his heirs and assigns forever all his right title and interest in and to a certain piece or parcel of Land lying and being the County of Pitt and State of North Carolina on Swifts Creek adjoining the Land of James HANRAHAN and others Containing Five hundred and forty one acres more or less, being the Land whereon John STOCKES decd lately resided and which descended to James STOCKES of the first part by the decease of the said John STOCKS. To have and to hold unto the said William BURNEY his heirs and assigns forever the interest of the party of the first part to the Lands aforesaid and the said James STOKES doth covenant to and with the said William BURNEY that he the said James STOKES doth by these presents fully convey unto the said William BURNEY his heirs and assigns all the right title and interest in and to the aforesaid tract of Land, free and clear from all the claim of his heirs hereafter.
