Pitt County Lookup Volunteers
Send an e-mail to
Ron Dailey, if you have material you'd be willing to share, or know of books available on Pitt County.
Rules for Lookup Volunteers
![]()
- Volunteers may do unlimited lookups if and only if:
- The lookup volunteer is the actual author and copyright holder of the publication.
- The lookup volunteer is using primary source documents ... whether they are treking to the courthouse or using their own xeroxed copies of public domain documents.
- The lookup volunteer has written permission from the author / copyright holder to use their publication for lookups.
- Volunteers may be able to make certain limited scope lookups in copyrighted publications under the "fair use" provisions of existing law.
- Potential volunteers are encouraged to review the explanations of copyright protection, especially the "fair use" provisions, available elsewhere on the Web.
Rules for Lookup Requests
![]()
- Send your Pitt County e-mail Lookup request to one of the volunteers listed below. The webmaster does not have ready access to any Pitt County info.
Include the following in your e-mail:
- Subject: Pitt County Lookup Request - SURNAME(S) [CAPITALIZE so they will be easier to recognize - if more than one, please list alphabetically] [put this in the subject of your e-mail message & the rest in the body]
- Your Name, and
- Your e-mail address.
- Mention the name of the book in your message.
- Our volunteers aren't mind-readers &
- they may not remember which books they volunteered for.
- Make your requests for lookup limited in scope.
- "Tell me everything about the Smiths" is probably too broad. J

- Please be polite and thank our volunteer (for most this advice is unnecessary, but some ... - forget).
- Our volunteers are giving us a precious item - their time &
- they deserve our thanks for saving us a similarly precious item - our own time.
- [After doing genealogy for over fifty years, I am keenly aware of just how precious time is to all of us. We only have a small amount of it here to do our work. The stories and lives of our ancestors prove that. - Ron Dailey]
-- Researchers should not ask, nor may lookup volunteers offer, to violate copyright laws in responding to requests for lookups in any copyrighted material. --

Lookup Offers
- [We badly need volunteers for these Lookups. Please help!]
My Special Thanks go to these Lookup Volunteers. They are the soul of a website like ours. Their offer to do lookups, sometimes to perfect strangers, breathes life into what otherwise would be nothing more than an inert bulletin board.
