Website Moving NotificationThe move of the Scotland County NCGenWeb has been completed. Please bookmark the new address of http://www.ncgenweb.us/scotland/. Thank you for your patience.~Mary Modlin, Website Coordinator March 16, 2008 Scotland County originated from an act of the North Carolina Legislature on February 20, 1899. Although it is a relatively new county, it has a long history as originally part of Anson County (formed in 1750) and later Richmond County (formed in 1779). This historically significant area was settled from the mid-1700's to early 1800's primarily by Highland Scots largely from Argyllshire but also by families from other areas of North Carolina, and neighboring states. Many of Scotland County's pioneer families
eventually migrated to South
Carolina, Georgia, Florida,
Alabama
and Mississippi.
Present-day neighbors of Scotland County include: Richmond,
Hoke,
Moore
and Robeson
Counties. The county seat and largest town within the county is
Laurinburg. South Carolina neighbors include Marlboro and Dillon Counties. We hope that you enjoy your visit to the
Scotland County NCGenWeb site. The links will provide you with
additional
information about your Scotland County ancestors. Please contact
me if you have any suggestions or resources you would like to share
on the site.
