Welcome to the Stanly Co., North Carolina GenWeb page. I am Sharon
Pierce your NEW County Coordinator.
The site is "under contruction", so bear with me please. I will
be adding lots of new information in
the next couple of months, so be sure and bookmark the site, and check back
often. So let's get on with the researching.

HISTORY OF STANLY COUNTY
Stanly County NC was formed in 1841 from the part
of Montgomery County west of the Pee Dee River........lots of citizens were
unhappy about having to go to the county seat of Montgomery County to take care
of business. So they petitioned the state to have a new county formed,
actually in 1838.
I will be posting a list of these residents that signed this petition later.
Stanly County was named for John Stanly of New Bern (1774-1834), who served
several terms in
the NC House of Commons and 2 terms in the US House of Representatives.
