Heading on Rt. 19W from Unicoi Co, Tennessee towards Burnsville, NC,
make a right onto Little Creek Road which crosses over the Cane River
-see map at the bottom of this page. After passing a general store/gas station on the
left, make the first left onto Bald Mountain Road. Proceed for
about 2 miles on the winding 2-lane road which climbs in elevation
towards Little Bald Mountain. Make a right on Sampson
Mountain Road. The Sampson-Wilson and Fender
Cemeteries are situated next to each other on the hill. A group of
aged boxwoods surrounding CR Bradford and wife's graves is the
centerpiece of Sampson cemetery. The oldest known plot in this
cemetery belongs to John "Broke-Leg" Edwards (see plots 29a/b --(b. Jan
1806 - d. Oct 1884) buried next to his 2nd wife, Margaret "Arty" Higgins.
There are over 50 unmarked graves.
I give special thanks to Dwight Edwards for his collaboration and
partnership on this website for ancestry preservation.
