NATHAN RAWLINGS
Nathan Rawlings is first found in Henry Co., Kentucky in 1800 where
he married
Prucilla Ray on 24 September 1800. Some records list Prucilla
as Drucilla. The background of Prucilla Ray is unknown. A total of 15 spelling
variations were check in Henry Co. for the name Ray and none where found.
Nathan Rawlings was listed in the tax records for Shelby Co. in 1798, Shelby
Co was the parent county of Henry Co. He is listed again in 1799 then in
1800 for Henry Co, which was the year that Henry Co. was formed. He is
listed in these tax records through 1814.
It is unknown who Nathan Rawlings parents were, however a Aaron Rawlings
living in Henry Co in 1800 and listed in the Tax records through 1809 could
be Nathan's father, or brother. No relationship has been established between
Nathan Rawlings and any other Rawlings in Henry Co., Ky. Also no record
of Prucilla Ray's parents or any information in regard to her background
has been found. Several independent researchers have been attempting to
link Nathan Rawlings with other Rawlings families, however, nothing has
been found to link Nathan to any of these families. In the 1880 Census
for Thomas Rawlings, the son of Nathan Rawlings, Jackson Twp page 11, Brown
Co. Indiana the record has Thomas Rawlings father as being born in Maryland.
His mother place of birth is not listed. In the 1850 census for Nathan
Rawlings, Jackson, Twp, Brown Co, Indiana, page 431 Nathan is again listed
as being born in Maryland and is wife, listed as Drucilla Rawlings is shown
as being born in Virginia
The census records indicate that Nathan Rawling moved to Scott Co. Indiana
between 1810 and 1820, as he is listed in the 1820 census for Scott Co.,
Indiana. He is listed in the tax records for Henry Co., Ky until 1815,
so he likely moved to Indiana around 1815 or 1816. He is again listed in
the 1830 census, Scott Co, Indiana, however is not listed in the 1840 census.
It is possible that he could have been living with his son Aaron Rawlings
during the 1840 in Scott Co., Indiana. In the 1840 census for Scott Co.,
Aaron Rawlings is listed with a male age 60-70. This could be Nathan with
Aaron listed as the head of the household.
Nathan Rawlings had land in Scott County, Indiana on Sec 2, Twp 2, Range
7, Lexington, Twp. In 1853 he sold 40 acres of land for $100 to John F.
Whitlatch and 40 additional acres to Shelby Richey on Feb 20 1857. This
80 acres is the only land found for Nathan Rawlings,
Nathan Rawlings is listed in the Indiana Census for Scott County in
1820 and 1830, however, he has not been found for the 1840 census under
Rawlings or Rollins. It is possibly that he is listed under a entirely
different spelling. In 1850 he is listed in the census for Jackson Twp,
Brown Co, Indiana next to his son Thomas Rawlings.
Nathan died in Lexington Twp, Scott Co., Indiana in July 1859 at the
age of 83. This information was found in the 1860 Mortality Census of Indiana.
Nathan was probably living with his son Aaron Rawlings who lived and owned
land in Lexington Twp. Nathan's wife Priscilla, died after 1860 and was
probably living with Aaron in 1860 as the census indicates a Lucilla Rawlings
of the correct age listed with Aaron. It is unknown as to where Nathan
and Priscilla are buried.

Married Sarah Jan Sparks. Spent most of his life in Scott Co., Indiana
where he is buried with his wife and daughter Emily in the Kimberlin Creek
Cemetery, Lexington Twp, Scott Co., Indiana.
