Located 3 miles north of Columbus on then 2.5miles east in SWQt
of the SE Qt of Section 10 Twp 193, Range 93. Located on the North side of
the road behind the church. Church was built in 1915.

Lee, Berthe N. Mother 1869 - 1942
Berthe Johannesen was born in Ostre Toten, Norway on Jan 29, 1869.
Married Andrew H. Lee, who was born in Ostre Toten, Norway on March 14,
1871. They were married in Moorhead, Minnesota on Nov 20, 1899. Came to Portal
in 1899 and worked for the Soo Line RR. Homesteaded west of Portal in Portal
Twp. Andrew Lee died on March 9, 1954 and Berthe died on Sept 7, 1942. Charter
members of the Short Creek Lutheran Church. Children: Henry, Jennie, Nels
and Bertha. Bertha Lee married Magne Kleppen and lived on the Lee homestead
after Berthe and Andrew died.

Note: No other information of Charles Podoll and his wife, however,
Ernest Edward Podoll a brother of Charles, came with his brother Charles,
to Short Creek Township in 1900. He was born in Nalensha, Germany in 1861.
He married Wilhelmena Rau in 1890. He died in 1937 and Wilhelmena died in
1921.

Campbell, Robert C. July 4, 1878-July 11, 1953
Robert Campbell was the son of William W. Campbell and Isabella Spence
Campbell. Born July 4 1878 at Mapleton, N.D. Came to Portal in 1902 with
his parents and brothers William and Jack. All homesteaded in Portal Township.
Robert married Margaret Burke of Erie N.D. who had come to homestead in
Shortcreek Twp. Two children Alice and Burke. Robert later married Minnie
Maszk of Ardock, N.D. Had children Dennis, Mary, Jean and Rita. Robert Campbell
helped establish the Short Creek Lutheran Church. He farmed until his death
in 1953.
Campbell, Wm W. 1840-1920
Born July 1, 1840 in Scotland Married Izabel Spence. Immigrated to Canada
in 1867 and settled in Ontario. Came to Mapleton, N.D. in 1886 and to Burke
County to finish filing the claim on son Jack's land in Portal Twp in 1903.
Son Jack died from appendicitis on July 25, 1903 while proving up his claim.
William and Izabel had sons William D Jr. born June 9, 1870, Robert C.
born July 4, 1878, Jack E. born March 19, 1881, and daughters Elizabeth
born Dec 9, 1862 and Anna Belle in 1878.
