Sweet-Warren, P.O. Box 662, Kittery, ME 03904 SWEET, COLEMAN,
SAVAGE, HOLLENBECK - I'm searching for information on George W.
Sweet and his family while they were living in Bismarck around 1880
to about 1895. He was a lawyer and very active in the land
settlements with the railroads at that time. It seems that he and
his children periodically moved back and forth between Sauk Rapids,
MN and Bismarck during those years. His eldest son, David O. Sweet,
was apparently there long before George W. came to Bismarck however
and had already headed into Montana Territory by then. Several of
his daughters were married apparently while in Bismarck. George W.
Sweet's family are: Eliza V. Sweet (wife) Cora E. Sweet (dau.) mar.
Wm A. Hollenbeck Lizzie O. Sweet (dau) mar. Wm E. Savage Gertrude
"Kitty" Sweet (dau) mar. John James Coleman David Sweet also married
a girl named Norah while in the area but it would have been between
1875-79. These all lived in Bismarck and the marriages of Kitty and
Lizzie possibly took place there. Any information is very much
appreciated. Also if anyone knows where to possibly write for the
marriage records from that period. They were Episcopal but appear to
have attended whatever church was nearby. |

Eldridge Sunday,
February 15, 1998 Henry ELDRIDGE married Isabelle Maria HANSON
11 Nov 1884 in Bismarck, Burleigh Co., ND. Their son, Fred Gilbert
ELDRIDGE was born in Bismarck 11 Dec 1885 (or 1887?). I would like
to know if Henry ELDRIDGE is listed in census these years 1884-1887
or before, or after and what is given as his OCCUPATION. He was born
in St. Lawrence Co. NY and after living in Bismarck ND came to Iowa.
He died 1 May 1943 and is buried in Waukon, Allamakee Co., Iowa.
Henry was a race horse owner and driver and I would be interested to
know whether it was horse racing that brought him to Bismarck. Also
I would like to correct the birth date for Fred Gilbert ELDRIDGE.
1885 or 1887? Thanks to any responses in advance. If anyone needs
historical information on Black Hawk Co., Iowa, I have a lot
compiled. Email me if interested. Mary Eldridge |

Hall Sunday, March 8, 1998 I am helping a friend, Trishann
(Weiss) Zdroik, search for her birth family. She was born July 26,
1966 in Jamestown, North Dakota, and her adoption was handled
through Lutheran Social Services in Fargo and finalized in
Wisconsin. Her birth mother was about 16 and her birth father about
21 at the time, and one or both may have been of Norweigan descent.
Either may have been from the Bismarck area. Trish believes that her
given name at birth may have been Tanya or Tonja. Her adoptive
parents are Herbert and Charlene Weiss of Wisconsin Rapids,
Wisconsin. One of Trish's two sons was born with a rare genetic
disorder, "situs inversus-cilia disconesia," and she and her husband
need to learn more about her medical history. They would be grateful
for ANY tips about maternity homes which existed in or near Bismarck
or Jamestown in the 1960's, how to access local hospital and court
records, etc. You can reach her through my e-mail
(halltuck@coredcs.com) or contact her directly: Trishann (Weiss)

Thursday, June 4, 1998 I am looking for information on SHERMAN
RARICK b. 1867 Blackhawk Co Iowa. According to a land deed
from Iowa SHERMAN was in Burleigh County in 1888. I found him in the
1900 Census living in Menoken Township, single and listed as a farm
laborer living next to a Craven family. He apparently did not know
where he was born as the census record says born in Missouri and
both parents born in New York. Shermans mother died when he was 3
and I do not know who raised him. Shermans father was born in
Ohio and his mother in Maine. In 1910 Sherman was not in Burleigh
County. Sherman is the last male of this line so I am anxious to
learn if he married and had children. Any information will be
appreciated. Thank you. Annie |

Sunday, November 8, 1998 Hamilton, OhioMy grandfather,
Allen R. JOHNSON, traveled from Tipton County, IN to Burleigh
County, ND to teach in area schools for two years before WWI. I
don't know the exact time period, but I would guess it to be
sometime between 1912 and 1918. He used to tell stories of living
with families of his students, and the cold winters North Dakotans
endure. He even learned a little of the Norwegian language. My
parents still have the school bell he used to call the students in
for class. I am searching for any records of his time in the area,
or information on the schools, life in Burleigh County,
etc. |

My family, Capt. H.J. KING and his wife, Josephine Louise
(Lucy) ran the river from St. Louis to Montana in the mid to late
1880s. He was involved with over 14 different steamboats, as
captain or pilot or owner or etc. I'd like to find out
information about the river industry and any steamboats that came
through Bismarck. Additionally, Josephine died in Bismarck after
childbirth complications (I understand the infant died as well) and
was buried in St. Louis. After her husband, H.J. died in 1905, one
of her sons (Martin or Monteford) removed her from St. Louis and had
her re-interred in chamberlain, SD along with other members of
the family. They had a winter home in St. Louis but the children
were born in Cincinnatti, St. Louis, New Orleans and etc. Anyway, so
I'm looking for information on the KINGs (originally KOENIG) family
from 1850 through 1910 or so along the river, and I'm looking for
information about the river trade in general. Josephine died 21 July
1878. Thanks. Marianne Lindley
