Dunn County was settled by many true pioneers. At each cemetery you will find countless stories of the relationships between the people interred there. Many are family members, friends and long time neighbors. One such example is Kyseth Memorial Cemetery founded in 1886.

Captain Hans Siverts and his wife, Thrine, came to the Dakota Territory in 1886. Their ranch was on the Knife River east of Marshall. The Captain was Justice of the Peace for many years. He and his wife, Thrine are buried at Kyseth, as are their sons Christian and Carl, Carl’s first wife Zelma Jensen and Carl’s second wife Beulah Allen Siverts. Beulah’s parents, Frank and Hedwig Allen, as well as Captain Siverts’ sister Ida Lyster and her husband Henry Lyster are buried here.

Another such example of the family relationships interred at Kyseth Memorial Cemetery is that of the Selle’s. John Selle came to the United States in 1904. He married Marie Dalen, the granddaughter of John Kyseth and niece of Carl Kyseth. John Selle and his sons, Hjalmer and Kenneth farmed together until John’s death in the 1950s. After that Hjalmer and Kenneth continued the farming partnership for another 20 years. All of these individuals mentioned in this narrative, as well as three of Kenneth Selle’s children are interred here.

Kyseth Memorial Cemetery is located approximately 2 1/2 miles east of Marshall, ND.

Kyseth Memorial Cemetery is very well maintained. It is fenced, and had been mowed. This cemetery also has a nice bench for its visitors. The following list was transcribed from tombstones only. It is not a complete list.
