KAUN, KAWUN, MANN, TALLENT posted by Richard Moehnke on Wednesday, May 27, 1998

I am seeking information on the KAUN family. My great-grandfather was Alex KAUN, Alec KAUN, or Alexe KAWUN. My great-grandmother was Nellie MANN. My grandmother, Anna KAUN was born in Killdeer on 12/2/1915. Her sister, Elizabeth KAUN was born in Killdeer on 6/16/1918. They were probably established at a Catholic Church, as Alec was Polish. We believe Nellie MANN may have been born in Europe, not sure. After these 2 girls were born, Nellie MANN passed away. Stories passed down say she had kerosene on her dress and it caught on fire. Others heard was that he hemmoraged while giving birth. Nevertheless, when she died, Alec left the 2 girls with a family by the name of TALLENT. This family had a child the same age as the girls, they remember. Alec left to find work in Oregon. He did return, and moved east to Taberg, New York. Being of catholic faith, and understanding family structures, faith, etc. during that time, is there a catholic church, local genealogy society, city or county museum, etc. that I can establish contact with through the Internet in finding out information on Nellie MANN. I have searched for her death record both at the county level, and at the state level in North Dakota, but these types of records weren't manditory by the state until around the 1930's, depending on the history of the state. Nevertheless, I am certain that information I need can be found in church records. There has to be records of possibly their marriage, being Alec and Nellie, and/or of the christening of Anna and Elizabeth. I can assure you, no matter how small it may be, ANY information that can be found will certainly help. Anything concerning Nellie MANN or this family in Killdeer at this time is crucial to us.

The one I am currently searching for is Heinrich Johann HECKER (aka Henry HECKER). He was the brother of my grandfather. Henry signed as witness for my grandfather's marriage and then "went west". Since then so one now living has any knowledge of him. I am searching for information about Henry HECKER and would like to find his descendants.
