SEBASTIAN JOCHIM

Sebastian Jochim

Born in Strausburg (Strasburg), North Dakota, January 23, 1913 peacefully passed into heaven on April 11, 2004 in Sacramento, California. He has been a resident of Rio Linda for 67 years. He is survived by his loving wife Julia of 62 years and children Terry Jochim, Grass Valley, Ca.; Dennis Jochim, Sacramento, Ca.; Robert Jochim, Dublin, Ca., and Mark Jochim, Coulterville, Ca.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; his sisters Genevieve Marques, Josephine Bolan, and Rose Ratikin. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Josephine Jochim; brothers, George Jochim and Joe Jochim; sisters, Dorothy Unser and Elizabeth Schreiner.

Sebastian, with his family moved to Knights Landing, Ca. in 1937. Sebastian was employed at McClellan Air Force Base, Ca. from 1939 until he retired in 1973. He was a WW II Veteran in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. Sebastian and Julia settled in Rio Linda after building their home in 1947. He thoroughly enjoyed construction and remodeling after retirement. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Rosary will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1951 North Ave., Sacramento, Ca. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 19, 2004 at 10 a.m., also at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, followed by graveside services at the Calvary Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave., Sacramento, Ca. A special thanks is extended to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Rio Linda 111 for all the help to the family, and to my neighbors John and Michelle. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Rio Linda/Elverta Historical Society; or Restoration of Rio Linda Fire Department Fire Trucks - Engine No. 2 and Engine No. 7, P.O. Box 478, Rio Linda, Ca. 95673-0478; or your favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Valley, Citrus Heights.

Sebastian JOCHIM (1913-2004)

Sebastian Jochim died in Sacramento Sunday, April 11, 2004, at age 91.

Born Jan. 23, 1913, in Strausburg, N.D., Mr. Jochim has been a resident of Rio Linda for 67 years. He moved to Knights Landing in 1937, with his family. He was employed at McClellan Air Force Base from 1939 until he retired in 1973. He was a World War II Veteran in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Julia Jochim; children, Terry Jochim of Grass Valley, Dennis Jochim of Sacramento, Robert Jochim of Dublin, and Mark Jochim of Coulterville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Genevieve Marques, Josephine Bolan, and Rose Ratikin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Josephine Jochim; brothers, George Jochim and Joe Jochim; and sisters, Dorothy Unser and Elizabeth Schreiner.

The family requests memorials be directed to the Rio Linda/Elverta Historical Society; or Restoration of Rio Linda Fire Department Fire Trucks - Engine No. 2 and Engine No. 7, P.O. Box 478, Rio Linda, 95673-0478; or to the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Valley, Citrus Heights.

George H. Jutila, 88, Napoleon, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1992 at the Linton Hospital. Jutila was born Mar. 14, 1903 at Rantasolomi, Finland, a son of Abel and Hilda (Loitinen) Jutila. He moved with his family from Finland to Chisholm, Minn. on May 17, 1905. In July 1909 they moved to their homestead south of Kintyre and built a home, moving into it on December 17, 1909. He attended school at Solmonson's sod house, attending two months each year and graduating from the eight grade at the Tell School. One June 22, 1930 he married Esther Freeman on her parent's farm. They farmed the homestead until 1971, and resided in the home his parents built until August 1989 when they moved to the Logan County Home for the Aged in Napoleon.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Kintyre, and was active on the township board, Kintyre Credit Union, Farmers Union, Tell Township school board and the Finnish Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife Esther, Napoleon; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Donald, Seattle, Wash., Vernon and Annetta, Pierre, S.D., Raymond and Gail, Minnetonka, Minn., and H. Edward and Sharon, Kintyre; two daughters and one son-in-law, Elsie V. Erickson, Elk River, Minn. and Helen and Jack Roth, Kintyre; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Cecelia Ollila and Helen Tuohino, Longview, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, two children who died in infancy, two brothers, Armas and Eino, and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 11, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre, with Pastors Gary and Cathy Connors-Nelso officiating. Burial was in the Finnish Cemetery, Kintyre. Casket bearers were Gary Jutila, Steven Jutila, Keith Jutila, Jerry Jutila, Alan Aarestad, Boyd Aarestad, Terence Jutila, Wade Jutila, Mark Jutila, and Nathan Jutila. Honorary pallbearers were Oliver Lane, Carlo Lane, Gavin Liversage, Jack Roth, Fred Seppanen, and the Aarestad brothers.
