Norton This was a Great Northern Rail Road station in Section 25-150-51, Allendale Township, and Section 30-150-50 Walle Township, eleven miles south of Grand Forks, named for George Norton, the owner of the townsite. When the post office was established in 1881, the name was changed to Thompson to avoid confusion with Norton, Minnesota. Norton is an Anglo-Saxon name meaning from the north farmstead or village. The station was locally referred to as Norton Station. |
