Kempton This Great Northern Rail Road station was founded in 1884 in E 1/2 Section 7-150-54, Avon Township, six miles south of Larimore and named for W. S. Kemp, a Great Northern RR roadmaster. The post Office was established March 16, 1887 with Elmer A. Bickford Postmaster, who came here in 1886 as the manager of the Cargill elevator. The elevation is 1110, and a thriving village existed here for a time with an exaggerated population of 216 being reported in 1930. The actual population has probably never exceeded 100. The post office, Zip Code 58247, became a rural branch of Northwood on August 2, 1963, and closed altogether October 31, 1970, with mail to Northwood. |
