Belleville This was a farm post office established June 19, 1882 with Neil Bell postmaster. The name came from Belleville, Ontario, Canada, home of many area settlers, and is French for beautiful city. The name is also said to honor the postmaster. A townsite was platted in SE 1/4 Section 6-154-56, Elkmount Township, in anticipation of a railroad, but this hope was not realized. On April 15, 1907 the post office was discontinued with mail to Medford. In 1910 the Medford site was renamed Fordville, coined from the last syllables of Medford and Belleville. |

Enerson This was a rural post office established May 17, 1905 with Edward Enerson post office, but the order was rescinded November 1, 1905. Mr. Enerson, a native of Sweden, came to Dakota in 1883 from Michigan with his parents, and starting in 1899 operated one of the largest farms in the region. The post office would probably have been located at his home in SE 1/4 Section 32-154-56, Elkmount Township, about eight miles north of Niagara. |
