Edisons

This was a Great Northern Rail Road Loading station built in 1895 in Section 28-152-55, Elm Grove Township, three miles south of McCanna. It was named for Thomas S. Edison, owner of a 3,100 acre farm at this site and the owner of the privately held loading facilities. He came here in 1882 from Canada to manage the bonanza farm owned by Jameson Larimore, and was a first cousin of the famous inventor, Thomas Alva Edison.

McCanna

This Great Northern Rail Road station was built in 1883 in NW 1/4 Section 9-152-55, Elm Grove Township, eight miles NNW of Larimore and named for Dan W. McCanna, who came here in 1881 with his son, Simon, leading a group of settlers from southern Minnesota. The townsite was platted in June 1884, and the post office was established November 20, 1884 with Simon A. McCanna postmaster. The elevation is 1115, the Zip Code is 58253 and the village, which incorporated in 1887 has maintained a population of just under 100 for many years.

Shawnee

This was a Great Northern Rail Road station built in 1882 in SW 1/4 Section 30-152-55, Elm Grove Township, six miles North West of Larimore, whose post office served the site until the Shawnee post office was established September 6, 1902 with John Solseng Postmaster. The name honored pioneer settler Erving Shaw, with an obvious reference to the Shawnee Indians, an Algonquin tribe whose name is said to mean southerner. A population of 15 was reported in 1920, but the post office closed May 31, 1923 with mail to McCanna.
