Manvel

This place was founded in 1879 as a stage stop named "Turtle River Station" in NE 1/4 Section15-153-51, Ferry Township. The Great Northern Rail Road arrived in 1881 and built a station which they named for Allen A. Manvel, General Passenger Agent for the Great Northern RR. A street in Saint Paul, Minnesota is also named for him. Manvel is a Latin name meaning from the great estate. The post office was established as Manvel on January 16, 1882 with Ernest R. Jacobi, the Great-Grandfather of actress Jane Russell, as Postmaster. The elevation is 827, the Zip Code is58256, and the village, which incorporated in 1930, has grown in recent years to about 300 residents as some people who work in nearby Grand Forks have chosen to live here and commute.
