Bean

This was a Northern Pacific Rail Road station founded in 1887 in NE 1/4 Section 32-153-53, Gilby township, three miles south of Gilby, and named for S. S. Bean, who came here in 1886 and built an elevator at the site. A post office was established March 29, 1888 with Samuel White postmaster, and it was discontinued April 27, 1891 with mail to Gilby. In 1882 the post office was reestablished, but it was named Honeyford for a new Postmaster William J. "Bob" Honeyford. The station continued using the Bean name until 1906, when it changed to the more frequently used Honeyford.

Gilby

This was a farm post office established May 2, 1881 with John Braithwait Postmaster. It was located in SW 1/4 Section 22-153-53, Gilby Township, and named for John Gilby Jr., one of the brothers who came to this area in 1878. In 1887 it was moved to the new Northern Pacific RR townsite in SE 1/4 Section 8 & SW 1/4 Section 9-153-53, two miles NW of the original site. The townsite was platted in August 1887, and reached a peak population of 544 in 1930. The elevation is 906, and the Zip Code is 58235. Notable among its pioneers were physician Robert Machray McLean (1867-1930), and merchant Lars P. Bjerklie.

Honeyford

A Northern Pacific Rail Road station named Bean was founded in 1887 in NE 1/4 Section 32-153-53, Gilby Township, Three miles south of Gilby, and grew into the adjacent NW 1/4 Section 33-153-53. A post office operated here 1888-1891. When it was reestablished July 25, 1892 in the store of Andrew Redwing, new postmaster William J. "Bob" Honeyford named it for himself. The railroad station retained the name Bean until the townsite was platted in 1906 as Honeyford. A peak population of 75 was reported in 1920, bur a count of just 6 residents was made in 1981. The post office, Zip Code 58242, became a rural branch of Gilby on April 7, 1967, and closed July 31, 1973 with mail to Gilby
