Fergus This was a rural post office established July 11, 1893 with Michael Kent post master. It was located in NW 1/4 Section 11-150-56, Logan Center Township, Just across the road from the community known for years as Logan Center. Most sources state that the name honored pioneer settler peter Ferguson, although some say a mail carrier named McEvins named it for his hometown in Ontario, Canada. Fergus is a Celtic name meaning of manly strength. The country store containing the post office burned in 1918 and the post office closed September 30, 1919 with mail to Kempton. |

Logan Center This was a rural community founded in 1886 in SW 1/4 Section 15-150-56, Logan Center Township, and named for General John A Logan, a Civil war hero and prominent politician who had recently died. The name was suggested by area resident W P Wilson, also a veteran of the civil War. The "Center" part of the name noted the fact that it was sixteen miles Northwest of Northwood, Sixteen miles Southwest of Larimore, Sixteen miles Northeast of Aneta and Sixteen miles Southeast of Niagara. The post office was located just across the road to the south from 1893-1919, but operated under the name Fergus. The Logan Center consolidated school operated 1904-1960, and was the first of that type in North Dakota. |
