Blakely's Crossing Robert Blakely came here in 1877, settling at the site of a pioneer crossing of the Turtle River on the Grand Forks-Fort Totten mail rout. It was located in SE 1/4 Section 20-152-53, Mekinock Township, four miles South West of present-day Mekinock. Mr. Blakely established a post office here in 1879 which he named Meckinock. |

Blooming This Northern Pacific Rail Road townsite was founded in 1887 in Section 1-152-53, Mekinock Township and named for the adjacent township, Blooming (152-52) which was named by settlers from Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. It was just west of Mekinock, which soon became the site of development in the area. |

Mackinock This Northern Pacific Rail Road station was founded in 1887 as Mekinock in Section 1-152-53, Mekinock Township, but when the post office was established January 30, 1888 with Mathew Ladwell postmaster, it was erroneously entered in government records as Mackinock. The error was corrected on February 14, 1888 and it is assumed that the erroneous spelling was never actually used by the post office. |
