Northwood This was a farm post office established December 17, 1879 with Paul C Johnson postmaster, who named it for the hometown of most of the area settlers, Northwood, Iowa. It was located in NE1/4 Section 18-149-54, Northwood Township until 1882 when it moved two miles ENE to the new Great Northern Rail Road townsite in Section 9-149-54, which was platted by Thomas O. Hougen who became the mayor when it incorporated as a city in 1892. The elevation is 1102, the Zip Code is 58267 and a peak population of 1240 was reported in 1980 as the city has shown a consistent growth. Dan Leroy Clark Campbell (1877-1966) published the "Northwood Gleaner" from 1899 until his death. |
