Flushing

This was a Great Northern Rail Road loading station in NW 1/4 Section 6-154-54, Strabane Township, and NE 1/4 Section 1-154-55, Inkster Township, three miles north of Inkster at the Walsh County line. It appears on maps circa 1915-1925 and reported a population of 5 in 1920. The name probably traces to Flushing, New York which is a part of Queens Borough of New York City, whose name is an Anglicized version of Vissingen, the name given it by Dutch settlers in 1645.

Reno

This was a rural community on the Forest River in SE 1/4 Section 2-154-54, Strabane Township, four miles Northeast of Inkster. Leonard and J. R. "Bob" Wagar were the first settlers, coming here about 1878. The settlement consisted of a general store, blacksmith shop, tavern and a post office, which was established December 8, 1881 with John McDonald (1844-1921) postmaster. It was bypassed in 1881 by the Great Northern Rail Road and in 1885 by the Northern Pacific Rail Road, and quickly declined. The post office closed November 12, 1885 with mail to Forest River. It is said to have been named for Marcus Albert Reno (1835-1889), an officer under General George A. Custer who escaped death at the Battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876, but was cited for cowardice and dismissed from the military.

Strabane

This was a rural post office established December 5, 1881 with Edward Miller postmaster in SW 1/4 Section 22-154-54, Strabane Township, five miles WSW of Johnstown. Mr. Miller is said to have claimed that the name meant I stray in Latin, but it was later discovered that he had come here from Strabane, Ontario, Canada which was named for Strabane, county Tyrone, Northern Ireland. The post office closed June 10, 1886 with mail to Johnstown.
