Griggs County was established 18 Feb 1881 and organized 16 Jun 1882. The first county seat was Hope. In November 1882 it moved to Cooperstown when Hope became part of Steele County. The county was named for Alexander Griggs, a Red River steamboat captain and pioneer of Grand Forks.
Area 720 square miles.
2000 population -- 3303.
