History
Township history from the book "McLean County Heritage" by the
 McLean County Historical Society

Amundsville Township was settled by homesteaders in 1912 and 1913. There was a claim shack on almost every quarter section. In 1916 more land to the south, known as the Coal Land, was opened to homesteaders and was soon occupied by settlers.
In 1917 the Wright School was built. Five buses hauled the children to school, the first ones drawn by horses. They were discontinued in the 30's when times got hard and school boards were hard-pressed for teachers' salaries and operating money. Before the school was built, school sessions were held at different places in the township.
Amundsville township was a Scandinavian settlement. At one time all the pupils at the school were of Scandinavian descent except children from four homes.
In the early days we had telephones from Plaza, Makoti and Ryder, with possibly up to 5 or 6 parties on each line.

A national Wildlife Refuge is in Sec.16, 17 and part of 20 and 21. This refuge is around McLean Lake in Section 16.
Amundsville school district had a consolidated school in Section 16, which is now a community hall and voting place. Bethlehem Lutheran Church is located in Section 35, according to the later atlas.
Deepwater Creek cuts diagonally through the southwestern townships. The land is glacial sediment and is good farming land.
