The eastern sections of 150-86 contained the Blue Hill range. Although the hills are rolling, their elevation is high, so they can be seen for a long way. They very definitely were an important landmark. The hills are "Blue" when seen from a distance. From the highest point, five towns can be seen now. Section 22 contains a lake, "Shallow Lake". |

Aldridge This was a rural store located in NW 1/4 Sec. 3-150-86, Blue Hill Twp., seven miles SSE of Ryder. It was operated by Abe Aldridge, who is said to have also run a post office, although this claim is unsupported by government records. It is found only in a 1914 county atlas. |

Oscar This was a rural post office established February 16, 1903 with Gilbert O. Gilbertson pm, who named it for his father, pioneer homesteader Oscar G. Gilbertson. Oscar is a Celtic name meaning leaping warrior. It was located in SW 1/4 Sec. 10-150-86, Blue Hill Twp., seven miles south of Ryder. A country store was added to the post office in 1904, and the Blue Hill School was built here in 1909. The post office closed May 15, 1909 with mail to Ryder, but the school operated until 1953. Oscar has been found on maps as late as 1948, and the original post office building still exists. |
