Elm Point

The Lewis & Clark expedition had camped here during the winter of 1804, the actual site being Sec. 5-144-84, Lewis and Clark Twp., across the Missouri River from Stanton. In later years and for a time a mail drop for local settlers was maintained, but no actual post office was ever established. The name is descriptive of the locale.

Erickson

This was a rural post office established February 13, 1886 with Par "Preacher" Erickson pm, who suggested the name Paradise. Postal officials rejected this name, substituting the name of the pm. It was located in his country store in SE 1/4 Sec. 10-144-84, twelve miles WNW of Washburn, and just north of what is now believed to be the true site of Fort Mandan, the 1804-1805 winter headquarters of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. A population of 25 was reported in 1890, but the post office closed January 7, 1890 with mail to Conkling.
