Lucky Mound This was an Indian settlement in Sec. 9-149-90, Lucky Mound Twp., on the east bank of the Missouri River opposite Independence in Dunn County. The name is a corruption of the French name for the area, "l'eau qui monte," meaning water that rises. Loquemont Twp. (149-89), just to the east, also derives its name from this French phrase. The village had a Roman Catholic church and a store, but no post office. The backwaters of the Garrison Dam inundated the site in the 1950's. |
